The fact that he denigrated government. "Government"...no matter its many faults, is the basis for civilization...for reasonable society.

And the national debt tripled during his administration. The "booming economy" of which you speak was just living on the credit card.

You too forget war is expensive but losing a war has much higher cost. Part of Reagan's strategy was to spend the Soviets into insolvency and he succeeded admirably.

He started the move to spend US into insolvency, Sawyer.

He was lauded by people as "a family man"...but he was a divorced man; got his second wife pregnant before marrying her; and was such a poor parent that two of his kids wrote books excoriating him and his wife as lousy parents.

He was as much a liar as any president...with Iran/Contra being his legacy.

Reagan's legacy is " Mr Gorbachev, tear down that wall". Germany was reunited and the entire world changed overnight.

Reagan's legacy is that he was a phony...and a liar in the Iran/Contra scandal.

Gorbachev did more to change the world than Reagan ever thought of.

I voted for one. I accept that they both were trying to do what was correct.

Both ended up failures of a sort.

Define failure. Soviet Union collapsed under Gorbachev which was a success for Reagan and the entire free world.

If you need a definition of failure...look it up in Google.

Reagan was a likeable guy...but he was a failure. Most of the achievements attributed either were the achievements of someone else...or were gotten through the use of the nation's credit card.

And the idea of using Reagan and his wife as exemplars for family values is ludicrous.

I don't and didn't know or care about making Reagan an exemplar of family values. That's not my criteria in judging a president. Reagan won the cold war and destroyed the Soviet Union. He got Carters economy off it's ass. He ended the Carter malaise and people were once again proud to be American. His peace dividend lasted for decades. I'd call that an extremely successful presidency.
