I just looked st the outage state wide. Just a few customer off line. Typically down lines or blown transformers and are quickly resolved.

Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott is once again presiding over another energy crisis in the state that produces more natural gas than any other in the nation, but he hasn’t said a word. KLTV reports “ERCOT is asking Texans and Texas businesses to voluntarily conserve electricity, Monday, July 11 between 2-8 p.m. ERCOT also issued a Watch for a projected reserve capacity shortage from 2-8 p.m.” The ABC affiliate also says ERCOT is urging Texans to postpone running major appliances and turn their thermostats up to save energy.

A big part of the problem is Texas has13,180 wind generators that produce 24.8% of the grid capacity. Natural gas produces 51% of the grid. You can flip a switch and turn on a natural gas plant. No one has found a way to flip a switch and turn on the wind yet. During barometric high pressure systems (think hot weather) the wind blows less. Texas has a lot of high barometric pressure systems that last weeks at a time. We like our air conditioning when it gets hot. Losing wind generating during hot weather destabilizes the grid.
For the sake of comparison. Texas has 4 times as much wind capacity as California does.
