And this is on top of usually poor pay, jeopardized pension benefits, attacks upon what little security they have, and having to defend yourself against candidates who want to make a headline coitizing them for political ends. No wonder a third plan on quitting and over seventy five percent would not recommend it as a profession to others

Just a further dumbing down of America
 
The people have largely wised up to what teachers and the schools have been up to behind our backs. This will carry consequences.
 
Those who got into teaching because they wanted to be educators have in recent years been taught that their kind are not wanted now that schools are WOKE indoctrination centers.
 
When I think of the dumbing down of America I think of the fighting to eliminate merit based schools, the lessening of requirements and standards in the name of equity, the power of the teachers unions and the politicians who do their bidding to prevent change/competition - namely charter schools but really anything to update our 20th century top down model.

That’s our real issue. I volunteered teaching for a number of years. I know it can be both tough and very rewarding.

Doing away with End of Instruction tests that are required for graduation…dumb, dumb, dumb. I loved that Oklahoma students had to pass the Algebra I EOI in order to graduate. Talk about an attentive class. And once they passed that one, realizing that they could actually do it, it was a breeze to motivated them to pass the Geometry EOI even though it wasn’t necessary for them, though it was for our school’s letter grade.

Makes sense…teachers had to do their jobs and students had to do theirs. No excuses as long as marginal students were handled correctly.

Why do so many people think that charter schools are some kind of answer?

First off, the overwhelming majority of charter schools fail, secondly, those that do succeed are partially due to the fact that they can select their students, and more importantly, can flush students they don't want. Not a recipe for success in educating all of America's youth

And, nothing personal, but volunteering isn't the same as doing it two hundred or whatever days a year

The culture war came to the schools in the mid to late 80's when those who are now known as the WOKE took over the schools of education nationwide in an organized effort to subvert America.

Conservatives are not the villains here.

Charter schools aren’t a panacea for all our educational challenges but plenty of data that shows how well they do overall and if you believe people vote with their feet look at places like NYC where there’s tons of demand yet the City puts caps on how many they will allow. There’s a reason unions fight so hard against them and it’s not because they are looking out for the kids.

If one thinks the status quo in education is fine then I guess it makes sense to fight changes/reform.

Not saying to eliminate them, however they are not the remedy many think they are, as I said, most fail, and those that succeed have the abilities I described above at their disposal, anyone can teach the perfect class if the school can flush the lesser or problem students

Many public schools would fail if we let them. They aren’t a panacea but they provide options, a differing ciriculum etc. If the status quo works for you and reducing standards in the name of equity is what we need then you should be happy with how things are trending.

America is fucked and we're doing it to ourselves.

We are a society of spoiled rotten crybabies who demand that everything must be exactly the way "WE" (not those other guys who call themselves Americans) want it with ZERO compromise.

When kids can no longer receive an education from trained, educated professionals and instead must rely on their dumbass redneck/ignorant ghetto trash, dropout parents, they will grow up to be even stupider, unemployable jerks who will likely become alcoholics and drug abusers.

Countries like China and Japan will be eating our lunch.

I'd be surprised if the US is still a nation in 50 years.

We'll either be the ghetto shithole of the world or the jointly owned property of other countries.
