Nick Akerman said Trump has "zero defense" against a criminal probe into 2020 election meddling in Georgia.
Former Watergate prosecutor Nick Akerman said there is a rock-solid case against Donald Trump in the Georgia criminal probe into the former president’s demand that a state official*“find” him more votes*after the 2020 election.
During an interview on MSNBC’s “The Katie Phang Show” on Sunday, Akerman said Trump could likely face an indictment as a Fulton County grand jury investigates his attempt to steal the vote in Georgia.*
In a recorded call from Trump to Georgia Secretary of State*Brad Raffensperger*ahead of the official 2020 vote certification, Trump told the election official to “find” the 11,780 votes needed to reverse his loss to Joe Biden in the state.*
Akerman, who served as an assistant special prosecutor during the Watergate scandal that led to the resignation of former President Richard Nixon, said he believed that tape would be enough to lead to a possible conviction.
“If you are asking which of the cases right now, which one is going to send Donald Trump to prison, that is the case,” he said. “There is a really neat three-year felony in Georgia, that Donald Trump has violated. Prosecutors love tape-recorded evidence because you cannot cross-examine it”
“What is significant with those tapes is that when you put it in context of all of the evidence that the January 6 committee has uncovered — you put that together, Donald Trump has zero defense in Georgia,” he added.
“If I had to put my money on one prosecution that’s going to go forward here that will send Donald Trump to jail — it’s Georgia.”
Trump may have violated several federal laws in his call with Raffensperger. Georgia state law also makes it a crime to willfully tamper with “any electors list, voter’s certificate, numbered list of voters, ballot box, voting machine, direct recording electronic (DRE) equipment, or tabulating machine” or to solicit another person to commit such a felony, punishable by a sentence of up to three years in prison.

Former Trump aide says she heard Trump admit he lost the election
Trump and his team spent months trying to overturn the 2020 election.*

He repeatedly claimed he won and the election was rigged against him.*

A former aide claims she heard him say, "Can you believe I lost to this guy?" while watching Biden on TV.*
*A former White House aide to former President Donald Trump said she heard Trump blurt out an admission that he lost the 2020 presidential election to Joe Biden.*
Alyssa Farah Griffin told CNN's State of the Union that she heard Trump blurt out "Can you believe I lost to this guy?" while watching Biden on TV.*
Her comments come as the House committee investigating the January 6 riots tries to prove that Trump knew he lost before claiming the election was rigged and attempting to overturn it.*
Griffin, however, said it's going to be hard to prove Trump's intention in perpetuating the "Big Lie."*
"I'm not of the mind that this is going to take down Donald Trump in a legal sort of way," she told host Dana Bash. "But I do think it's going to inform the public about a man who lost and couldn't do what we've done for the entirety of our history, which is allow a peaceful transition of power."

I agree. A prosecutor on TV last night (so give that the reliability it deserves) was saying it's pretty much open and shut. All the prosecutor needs to do is to press "play" on the recorder.

Brad was so smart to record that conversation.

"Can you believe?" is not an admission. To him it could be "evidence", "See? This guy is an idiot! I didn't lose to him! Who could believe that? Can you believe that I lost to him?" Something like that.

He lost to Brandon. I'm not saying what he is... I'm just saying hearing him surprised that folks would "believe he lost to that guy" is not an admission he believes anything other than what he says.

Now if he said, "I know I lost to Brandon" we'd have something.

no tampering, not solitcitation to tamper. solicitation would be a very direct ask for a specific tamper.
not "find the votes"

Any other country, Trump would have been executed by now for Jan 6th treason.

That's what you need to prove conspiracy: proof that Trump knew he lost, but still plotted to overturn the election.

That being said, I would be surprised if Trump is ever sent to prison. Spiro Agnew was only a Vice President, but he easily dodged prison time.

Agnew's crimes were petty compared to Trump's.

Calling a Secretary of State and threatening him to flip enough votes to make you the winner in a state is about as criminal as you can get.

Trump is fucked. He may not get any prison time but they'll use the Constitution's 14th amendment to make sure he never sniffs the White House again.

No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.

I rest my case.

Yes Russia would have shot Trump. They have Politburos just like the J6 committee.

It's obvious why you lambast the Jan 6 committee. You're scared shitless of what they will uncover. Americans can smell the Republican guilt a mile away.

But it won't save you. Trump is fucked.

What time does it start?

Still, asking to alter votes could burn him. :rofl2:

And don’t forget when he spoke with historians.

“Trump went on to say twice that he did not win the 2020 president election — despite his frequent, false claims to the contrary.”

No doubt whether he believed it or not is a key factor, there's a lot of evidence Trump sought to alter the results of an election. While it's debatable whether he'll actually go to prison (a Billion dollars buys a lot of Justice in America!), it'll certainly slow him down to a standstill.

Meanwhile, all of those under him from the White House to the WSE strike teams and Qanon idiots will most certainly suffer the consequences of their actions.

Notice that the truly insane don't fault Trump for not pardoning them as promise. That's one way to tell they are insane. LOL

A decent defense attorney just claims Trump was asking Brad Raffensperger to find "legal" votes and not anything unlawful. The ex-Watergate prosecutor was just sounding off. I bet Trump is not indicted much less acquitted.

The 14th Amendment cannot be used to disqualify him.

The best we can hope for is that this discredits him enough so that he chooses not to run again; although, those who are won't vote for him again have already made that decision--the Jan 6 committee probably will not change anybody's mind.

There is the weight of evidence a jury would have to consider. Still, I agree with you in general that a billion dollars buys a lot of Justice so I suspect Trump will walk on everything.

OTOH, those who helped or supported him will not be so lucky. LOL

It doesn't matter how much money twump has. The government's resources are unlimited. If the DOJ decides to prosecute, they'll keep after him until he either caves or they settle.
