They fool themselves with word games so they don't see it that way. Either it 'wasn't so bad' or they disavow supporting it, call it 'something that got out of hand, a few bad apples who need to be punished.'

Whatever they come up with, they find a way to still support Trump, give him a big fat free pass on January 6th. Facts denied with the wave of a hand. Surely their god is innocent, etc, blah blah blah.

One really has to be in denial to continue to support Trump.

The perplexing/ironic thing is the 180's all the 180 all the Republicans did and the pardons requested by other Republicans.

After 1/6 McCarthy and McConnell both called for twump's head on 1/6 - then they must have heard from their Nazi base, and began, instead enabling trump.

Why were all these Republican congressmen begging twump for pardons for helping him with the coup before he departed if they weren't doing anything criminal?

That would eliminate millions of voters. Ever seen one of those videos where they ask random people on the street some very basic questions like: "Can you name the three branches of our government?" They can't do it. They can't even name their own Representative.
