Look into what Ronald Reagan did with the funding for mental hospitals and who was put out on the streets. I do not agree with such a policy. Deinstitutalization is one thing, releasing to the streets is quite another.

Deinstitutionalization as a policy for state hospitals began in the period of the civil rights movement when many groups were being incorporated.


The civil rights movement was an organized effort by Black Americans to end racial discrimination and gain equal rights under the law. It began in the late 1940s and ended in the late 1960s.


Ronald Reagan was president from 1981 to 1989.

The cost of mental institutions should not be borne by taxpayers.
