People who protest in front of private residences in Florida can face jail time and fines under a bill signed by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Anyone who protests in front of a private residence in Florida can face jail time and fines under a bill Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis signed Monday.

The legislation makes it a second-degree misdemeanor to protest in a manner that is aimed at intentionally harassing or disturbing someone in their home. Violators face 60 days in jail and fines of up to $500.

Wow he doesn't even pretend. He truly is a fascist. People being thrown in jail for exercising their First Amendment rights?

I predict many people will be protesting in front of his house to spite him. They won't be enough rooms in jail.

Your First Amendment rights don't extend to you protesting anywhere you want. For example, you cannot block a public highway. A restriction on not being able to protest in front of someone's house is reasonable. It doesn't preclude you from protesting, just as to location.
Do you think it is reasonable that for a large protest you have to get a permit?

It is a public street, not private. It isn't trespassing. If they are blocking the street, the cops will disperse. What's next? Making it illegal to protest in front of government and business places? That is your logic.

amazing this has to be codified. what kind of cowardly sleezebag has to protest at peoples residences?
the usual nuts i suppose

when you do it at a private residence, it is
I'm in my house my underware. am I supposed to come out on my lawn to debate you?
No -you are simply there to harass - not "protest"

Who expects them to come out to debate? If that's harassment, they truly are the cowardly ones.

BTW, Susan Collins called the cops because someone drew a message on the sidewalk. The cops even washed them off for her. :rofl2:

So who really are the cowards? :dunno:

I suppose the Christians and Jehovah Witnesses would be banned from trying to influence people at their homes.

Just when I start wondering if he might be Presidential Material.....

So let me get this right.... a few teenagers and young people walking back and forth on a sidewalk in front of someone's house with signs will be fined and/or thrown in jail?
