House subpoenas its own, sets new norm after Jan. 6 attack

“It’s setting a very jarring and dangerous precedent,” said Rep. Peter Meijer of Michigan, who was among the handful of Republicans who voted to impeach Trump over the insurrection.

On Friday, the subpoenas for McCarthy and the four other Republican lawmakers were served as the committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol is wrapping up its initial phase. Public hearings are expected to begin in June, and the panel is still determining whether to call Republican senators to testify.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Jan. 6 committee’s remarkable decision to subpoena House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and other congressional Republicans over the insurrection at the Capitol is as rare as the deadly riot itself, deepening the acrimony and distrust among lawmakers and raising questions about what comes next.

Does set a precedent, but the funny thing about precedents is that the Democrats keep struggling to avoid them, but as soon as the GOP takes over they have no qualms ignoring them, Mitch’s f*cking up the SCOTUS proves that fact. Guarantee three months in Jimmy Jordan will be, and always was going to, subpoena anyone he wants

One element involved is that to enforce the subpoena you have to have solid reasons, other wise it is easily thrown out upon appeal

Americans do not give a fuck about the House Stalinist Jan 6 Kabuki Theater.

They care about inflation, and the upcoming recession, both of which are the doom of the Dunce-o-crats in November.

Sure they do, perhaps not as much as their pocketbooks, but they are aware of it, and come the live hearings will be noticing more

Unlike the MAGA militia, majority of Americans don’t want to just forget the events of January 6th, nor the attack upon the Capitol and Constitution

The Law and Order people think physically assaulting cops is normal.

nobody really cares. it's living in the past
we have exigent threats now from China and the border and the economy

So if they commit crimes while in office they never get questioned about those crimes

That's fine when you investigate before you convict them.

As you can see, on the Left and radical Left (including Democrats on the Jan 6 inquisition committee), they've already convicted the Republicans. Now they want to hold a trial...

They have information relevant to the investigation. If they refuse, then they're guilty as sin and Congress I guess not bother investigating anyone else anymore.
