UKRAINE has "won the battle of Kharkiv" as the mayor Ihor Terekhov confirmed Russia had fully withdrawn its forces from the city.

An update from the Institute of War issued on Saturday, May 14, said Russia appeared to have decided to withdraw from Ukraine’s second-largest city a month after its troops pulled away from Kyiv and the northeast over a month ago.

Ihor Terekhov told the BBC: "The Russians were constantly shelling Kharkiv because they were staying very close to the city. And due to the efforts of Kharkiv territorial defence and Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Russians have withdrawn out far from the city area in the direction of the Russian border. Now it is calm in Kharkiv and people are gradually coming back to the city."

It comes as Russia’s military is struggling on the battlefield, with heavy losses of military equipment and personnel.

According to an update by Ukraine’s general staff, 27,200 Russian soldiers have been lost since the invasion began. The figure is much higher than the number given by the British Government, which puts the death toll of Russian soldiers at 15,000.

Excellent!

The Ukrainians are one hell of a fighting force.

One Ukrainian fighter has more guts than the entire Biden Administration.

I just hope it isn't some move by the Russians to get their ppl out of harm's way before doing something *really* heinous, like nerve gas, tactical nuke, or something similar.

I think the Russians would dearly have loved to have taken Kharkiv, and only retreated because of the ferocity of the Ukranian counteroffensive.

Kharkiv is Ukraine's second most important city, and being only 20 miles from the Russian border, is a predominantly Russian-speaking city.

Putin would have loved to have the feather in his cap that he "liberated" the most important ethnically Russian city in Ukraine.

Thanks, did not know this. I wonder what the Russian-speaking citizens of this city think of Russia and its leader *now*?
