I agree the invasion was a terrible mistake and costly to the people of Ukraine
It also hurt Russian economy.
But that doesnt justify the west's ( in particular the USA) going ALL IN on "victory" and "degrading" the Russian military
There is such thing as a "proportional response' and we blew past that long ago
North America and Europe can no longer tolerate a war mongering Russia.
We were kidding ourselves that engagement with Putin was possible.
Until Russia has new leadership and movement towards democratic norms of conduct, NATO and the EU have every right and obligation to degrade Russian military and economic capabilities so that other countries aren't invaded, and to treat Putin like the pariah and war criminal that he is.

Yeltsin said that Finland would not attack Russia with a missile, and no one would attack Russia with a single missile. He went back to sleep with instructions not to wake him even if the USA launched all their ICBMs.
Finland has had nukes on its borders for 70 years. It is time you grow up and accept it.

Russia has been threatening Finland since before NATO. Blaming NATO for it is nonsense.
Was the world a much safer place during the Cold War? It was much easier to understand, but I do not know about safer.

Up to last February Putin had two NATO states on his borders - Latvia and Estonia.
If he succeeded in taking over Ukraine, he would have four more. Plus Finland now.
