I’ll raise my hand to that. I’ll admit, when a friend said their child currently identifies as cisgender I didn’t know what she talking about. I have a young daughter. Should I say I currently have a young daughter? (The implication of course being she could choose to identify differently at some point in the future.). It’s an adjustment to me to not just say I have a girl but rather speak about how she currently identifies.

I don't know why it matters to people.

All I know is that people who are forced to live a lie just because of perception are generally miserable. The 1950's isn't the way to go. Unless it actually harms someone, I don't care if there are eventually dozens of gender identies.

Let people be free.

While I have issues with the hormone blockers and stuff they physically do to kids ultimately it’s to each his own. People can live their life how they please. But that doesn’t make saying I currently have a daughter, or saying my daughter “currently identifies as” feel any more normal. That’s weird to me but whatever

I get it. We're really just in the 1st generation of figuring this out.

Like everything else, it will get more normalized w/ time. In 100 years, I doubt people will care what people identify as.

30 years ago NO professor would have came close to saying this...but here we are

This is anecdotal but one of my best friend’s is a Partner at a big SF law firm. He was telling about a lunch they had with other Partners recently and at like four of the people there started saying there kids were considering transitioning. My buddy was saying this matter of factly. It wasn’t that he cared but I thought it interesting his comment it seemed like a fad, like these folks were almost trying to outdo each other when talking about their kids going through this.

Again, purely anecdotal but i thought interesting.
