Starbucks raises worker wages except if unionized

Yep, Starbucks just announced they're going to raise their non-union worker's wages to $15 an hour. At unionized locations, workers will continue to receive their current wages.

Is it Legal For Starbucks Not to Raise Wages At Its Union Stores?

So, why would Starbucks corporate management do this? Because at union locations the union members and union have to negotiate a contract with the employer for their terms and conditions of work. This means union members will continue to receive their current wages (about $12 to $14 depending on location) until a new contract is negotiated. Even then, it is possible they could receive less compensation, and they'd have to make close to $16 an hour to end up with $15 an hour after paying their union dues...

its worth remembering that the previous CEO was fired because he disagreed with the board about how to handle the union issue. Howard feels very strongly that unionization will disrupt operations significantly, and that Starbuck has earned a rep for being good to its workers so unionization is not fair.

I also believe that this push to unionize Starbucks is partly powered by a thirst for revenge against Howard for his political activity, which has not conformed to WOKE ideology.

This is not even Starbucks biggest problem, it is that they bet big on China but China is rapidly turning Anti-American and refusing America products and brands. Sales in China are sinking fast even as Starbucks rushes to add more stores in China, not understanding the situation.

Maybe they should have raised it to 15 earlier

Then maybe the employees would not have unionized

One factor explaining Starbucks' increasing interest in China is the superior return on investment. At its shareholder meeting, Starbucks highlighted that stores opened in China delivered a 70% return on investment in their first year. That's in contrast to an ROI of 55% for stores opened in the U.S. Locations in the U.S. and China deliver roughly the same amount of sales, so the benefits are rising from lower operations costs in China.

Starbucks has long had a very generous benefits package.....the compensation has been more than fair, but workers have been trained to believe that they always deserve more....so no, that would not have made any difference.

Then the Union will have no problem negotiating 15 an hour for the union workers

I was standing in line at Starbucks the other day, and I overheard a conversation between the two people in front of me complaining about gasoline being $3.79 a gallon- as they waited in line to pay $7.50 for a cup of Cafe Latte!
