And a right to advance, in that as long as you can legally be somewhere, you can go there.

Unlike Walt land, people in Florida generally do have black neighbors. It's a way of life here. Often people get together for BBQ on the weekends and things like that.

Anyone doing what you described will end up in Florida State Prison real quick.

Think about this Walt...any runaway slaves that made it south of St. Mary's river into FL were treated as free men in the state.

Eligible for gainful employment and able to buy property and all that. Old FL blacks are great!

They are integral to our communities at all levels.

Many of the sub links didn’t work or wore inaccessible but all appeared to be cleared by a jury.

One problem I see is political extremism; one party seeks to limit rights so, in order to balance rights, laws are passed such as SYG. It’s a legal form of Newton’s Third Law: for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

IMO, a return to common sense is needed, but neither party seems interested. They each listen to the loudest, and often most extreme, voices in their party.

Do you agree that the Democrats have been seeking to ban guns for decades now? Institute “Australian-style” gun control? SYG and other measures are the reaction to such oppression and denial of rights.

Do you agree that’s irrational? Why do you think some states have reacted with laws that allow that to happen, Walt?

It sounds like in this case that the shooter's atty. is thinking about invoking the SYG defense for his client's bizarre attack. In a normal state that wouldn't fly, but it's FL so who knows. The jury might believe this scenario:

Levine (sees man on golf course with dog, grabs his gun and hops in his golf cart): Hey you, get your dog off the golf course!
Merritt: Fuck you.
Levine (see story for the rest of the events)

No doubt in Florida saying "fuck you" puts your life in danger so you'd better shoot now.

The lawyer’s job is to defend their client. Personally, I think Levine is nuts and will lose in court.

A Duty To Retreat means that your first priority is to try to save as many lives as possible. If it is safer just to retreat, then just retreat. It certainly is safer for the other person. The other person might not be attacking.

Let's use the example of the girl who comes home early from a slumber party. She enters the house in the middle of the night, when her father does not think she will be in the house. He hears someone moving around the house. He has two choices, retreat or shoot. With 20/20 hindsight, shooting is not the right choice.

There is evidence that mistaken self defense out numbers actual self defense. This just rises the death toll.

We are seeing more and more Stand Your Ground cases where the victim is trying to run away, and is shot in the back. A crazy person comes up to you, threatens you with a gun, you try to run away, and get shot in the back, that was not self defense anywhere other than a few red states.

We are also seeing more and more drunk people entering the wrong home, and shooting the actual residents of that house by "mistake". If you try to enter what you believe is your home, and find someone you do not know eating ice cream on a couch you do not recognize, the best solution is to retreat, call the police, and think through what is going wrong with this picture. Instead, we are seeing people start shooting.

No one has a right to bully or intimidate others. While the examples you mentioned were extreme, you also mentioned cases that are pending in court.

According to you a gang can take over a street and intimidate anyone they like, including in people’s own homes because you have a “duty to retreat” or “it’s the safest way to save lives”. Bullshit. Shoot the fuckers down.

Consider Kenosha and the little scrap among dumbasses. If you and I lived on that street, do you think I should have the right to put a bullet through the fat boy’s back after he shot the first unarmed person in order to save lives?
