Now that the several states can make laws re abortion, what exceptions seem necessary

The 1st trimester was a smart compromise, and has been the law of the land for decades. That should be the standard.

If the thing in a female's body is alive (which a heart beat would indicate) and it's human, it's life and rights should be constitutionally protected. Ending its life, beyond the point that it's alive, would be a violation of rights and illegal.

Your standard is heartbeat; mine is consciousness w/ a side of viability. Someone else's might be something else entirely.

It's why the 1st trimester was a good compromise.

My standard is what's established by the Constitution. We have a right to LIFE, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness. No mention of consciousness or viability.

Fetuses aren't citizens. But I understand that as they develop, things get more murky. Which, again, is why the 1st trimester is such an elegant compromise.

When basically anyone in the medical world wants to check to see if someone is alive or dead, what do they check?
 
America is about to go back to Two-America land though probably without armies this time. Some states will ban abortion, others will try to ban the banners. Connecticut recently passed such a law. It gives legal protection to out of state residents who come to Connecticut for an abortion and then face financial blowback under recently passed laws in their own states. These blowback statutes authorize any resident to sue for damages another resident who has gone out of state for an abortion. The Connecticut law would create a right of counter suit sufficient to more than cover any damages under the first suit plus attorney fees.

Sure to be a fun time…

Getting busy with this COULD allow your state to have a state approved alternative in place by the time the SCOTUS opinion rolls into place.

I think it would be best for the residence of your states to have whatever solution they approve of in place for day one.

1) Personal decision. 2) Health of mom and/or passenger. 3) Product of rape, incest, contraceptive failure. 4) Personal choice because this is none of your business, or mine.

seems to cover several of the standard scenarios.
1 and 4 appear to be the same and would negate the need of any others.
I actually agree that its none of our business however it is traditional for government to address criminal matters.
There is an innocent life taken in every abortion.

Correction: There is a *potential* life involved in every abortion, as well as an actual life -- the mom's.

The Theocratic Authoritarian dominated states will push for no abortion at all. IMO, they’d rather let the woman die rather than “kill” the “human being” she’s carrying. Odd too since most of them support the death penalty.

There’s life in feces, blood, urine, puke and the cheek cells we wash down the drain when we brush our teeth.

Life is so prevalent on Earth that extreme measures are used when constructing space and planetary probes to avoid contamination.

Every animal slaughtered for food is “innocent life”. It’s never been a problem before. :)

OTOH, most human cultures have customs and laws against murder. This is why the anti-women/anti-abortion crowd began calling zygotes “human beings” so as to extend the customs against murder to a single human cell.
