Democrats have begun gerrymandering like the Republicans. The Republicans have 21 Senate seats, compared to the 14 that the Democrats have up for grabs. So Democrats will win a few more seats in the House just based on gerrymandering, and the Republicans will have to win 60% of the Senate seats just to break even.

So before the Supreme Court threw a bomb in everything, it was far from certain that Republicans would win.

Now throw in the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which Democrats could hammer Republicans on their support for Putin. The economy is far from perfect, right now. But voters often vote on the direction of the economy, so if we have a minor downturn, followed by an upswing in November... Besides, the economy is not that bad. There are some really great numbers, for instance employment, which is often one of the most important to voters.

The more trump speaks, the worse Republicans look in the general election. And there is little Republicans can do to stop trump from speaking.

And now there is the Supreme Court. Saying it is "mostly a state thing" will not matter to former Republican voters who want to keep abortion legal. They will realize they were picking the wrong Supreme Court Justices (a federal thing). There are many facets of abortion law that will be federal. And supporting the federal Republican Party supports the state Republican Parties.

There are several things working in the Republicans favor... But it is definitely looking up for Democrats.
