Vladimir Putin has gravely miscalculated in Ukraine

The Russian president has achieved a lot since his forces invaded Ukraine. It's just that it was the opposite of what he wanted.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is running out of time. Will he be able to declare some sort of victory by May 9, the date that marks Russia's victory over the Nazis in 1945? Ukrainians, after all, are putting up fierce resistance in the face of Russia's aggression, defending their homes and families.

Russia, by contrast, isn't showing such determination. The world has repeatedly seen that Russian forces are suffering from low morale and that its soldiers — some only just 18 or 19 years old — do not want to fight this war. They are not finding a fascist regime in Ukraine or a Russian-speaking minority waiting to be liberated. The Russians are being greeted with fierce resistance, not flowers. In fact, Ukrainians enjoy greater freedom at home than ordinary Russians in their country, where fear reigns, where media outlets lie and where authorities crack down on every sort of dissent.

NATO reinvigorated
Within months, normally sleepy Germany has changed in ways it has not done in decades. It is tapping into its traditional talents: organizational prowess, industriousness and a willingness to make sacrifices. Other European countries have reacted in a similar way. Finland and Sweden are considering joining NATO. And pacifist Japan has decided to boost its defensive capabilities in light of Russia's aggression. All this is thanks to Putin.

He has reinvigorated NATO, which some members previously described as "brain-dead." The US has pledged over $30 billion (€28.5 billion) to help Ukraine defend itself. The European Union is following suit. Thanks to Putin, the order books of arms manufacturers are as full as they were during the Cold War.

Sometimes fate just has a way of making sure the right people are there at the right time. Trump hated Ukraine and he hated NATO. He is the last person history needs to play a role on the world stage at this time.

He'll kill a few thousand of his own troops to win some major battle then declare himself a victor despite trainloads of body bags headed for Russia.

My only concern is that Russian dictators can be relentless. The Red Army got their ass kicked by Finland in 1940, at least initially, but Stalin just kept committing overwhelming force until the Finns had to give up

Agreed, that's the trend.

The good news is that times do change and I'm curious to see if the Russians have changed enough to finally free themselves and join the 21st Century world.

I only hope the U.S. and our NATO allies, can keep up the military and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine for the long haul?!! I support what defense secretary Lloyd Austin said, about degrading Russia's military and it's inability to threaten any other countries?!! Ukraine can win this war!

It's worse every day for Putin. He's been exposed as being as impotent as trump.

His mouthpieces are now saying that a nuke attack is the only option that Putin has left. He simply doesn't care about destroying the world, if it means that he doesn't have to admit defeat. This no doubt puts China on the opposite side of Putin.

I'm wondering if he'll be alive by summer?

Even his loyal talking heads are admitting that there will be no 'victory' by May 9.

:bullshit: Obama/Biden sent Blankets and MREs and Trump sent 210 Javelins. It was those Javelins that Ukraine used early in the war to slow the Russian advancement. . Trump got NATO over 100 Billion more dollars. Trump didn't hate NATO he hated Americans footing a disproportionate part of the NATO bill because our allies taking advantage of Americans by shirking their responsibilities to NATO.

And in December, it was reported that Biden held up a $200 million military aid package to allow for more time for diplomacy with Russia as Vladimir Putin amassed troops on the Ukrainian border. At the time 22 House Democrats and Republicans wrote a letter urging Biden to release the aid, which included Stinger and Javelin missiles, drones, electronic jamming gear, radars, ammunition and medical supplies.

The fact is that Trump was reluctant to provide Javelins to Ukraine until his own staff convinced him it would be profitable for American business.

Trumpf's own national security advisor has stated that Trump was contemplating withdrawing from NATO and that he harbored a deep resentment towards Ukraine.

His affinity towards, and admiration for the dictator and notorious war criminal Vlad Putin is well known.
