Massachusetts governor backs naming Kennedy successor

....

The current state law was enacted in 2004 in a effort by state Democrats to prevent then-Governor Mitt Romney, a Republican, from naming a successor if Democratic Senator John Kerry won his bid for the U.S. presidency. Kerry went on to lose the 2004 election to President George W. Bush.

elections have consequences, yurt. the majority party gets to do things that tend to piss off the minority party... and in massachusetts, that usually means the democrats get to piss off the republicans.

don't like it? move to massachusetts with a whole bunch of your dweeby republiker friends and change the balance of power. Until then, stfu...it's none of your business.

They wanted to change the law in '04 for political reasons, so they did just that. I say tough shit, live with it, you got exactly what you wanted. If five months is too long to wait, blame Uncle Teddy. He knew what the end result of his ailment would be, and he knew it would happen sooner rather than later. There is no reason he couldn't have stepped down months ago and put into motion the process of electing a new senator.

Name a damn bridge after him and move on.

and if they can change the law again for political reasons, more power to them. that's how the game is played.

how can anyone honestly defend this blatant hypocrisy....?

laws are just political tools, they mean nothing

i can just imagine the uproar if a repub wanted this.....the double standard is nothing new....just sometimes to obvious and ridiculous it boggles the mind

the people of Massachusetts should be ashamed of themselves if they allow them to do this AGAIN.

Yeah. Tough shit for the Republicans. We got what we wanted, now we're going to get what we want.

laws mean nothing, party over country....

the rate at which our country changes majority parties.....this is going to fuck up the justice system....why don't we just do away with democracy after the majority party gets elected....just let them make any laws they want and any laws that benefit them and keep them in power.....

libs cried foul over texas when the repubs wanted to change the law.....but now that its the libs....its fine.....

Nah - I just think the obsession with hypocrisy & double-standard is hilarious.

Once again: it's called projection.

yeah....thats why you're ignoring the hypocrisy of the libs and instead solely ad homing me.....

do you have anything to add to the subject or are you just here to play ad hom and gotcha games?

Damn them! Damn them all to hell!

Yurt, if I wanted to do your hypocrisy police thing, I could do it in my town alone, practically every day, for both Democrats and Republicans.

Hypocrisy is as old and common as politics. Does it bother me? Sometimes, but there are much bigger fish to fry in America right now than hypocritical politicians.
