NEW YORK, April 26 (Reuters) - Former President Donald Trump must pay a fine of $10,000 per day starting on Tuesday until he complies with a subpoena to hand over material about his business practices to New York's attorney general, a New York judge said, adding that the clock was ticking on completing the probe.

The state judge, Arthur Engoron, on Monday held Trump in civil contempt for "repeated failures" to hand over materials to Attorney General Letitia James for a civil investigation launched three years agointo the whether the Trump Organization improperly valued assets to obtain financial benefits.

Trump claimes that the requested materials do not not exist.

At this point the AG must make the case that Trump is lying. The judge simply assuming that Trump is lying is abuse of a citizen at the hands of the state.

$10,000 a day fine. Of course Trump is lying. All he does.

Unless he's only fined on weekdays, it's $3.6 million a year.

But Trump will pay that and more to withold evidence.

He's something special.

Maybe NY ought to turn to more pressing problems?

Trump calls New York the 'Crime Capital of the World' and says 'racist' state Attorney General Letitia James should 'focus on saving the state' rather than spending 'millions' on the 'partisan' investigation into his family

In reading the article, it sounds like a politically motivated case was brought by a political stooge and that the judge who issued a ruling is also a political stooge.

Trump's attorney said that the documents were not available to send and could not be found.

The judge in essence said they didn't look hard enough.

The only justification for the judge's opinion on the whereabouts of the missing documents is that the judge already has the docs. If that is the case, no new delivery is required.

If the the documents DON'T exist, then the judge is nuts.

Political hacks committing political crimes against political enemies. Nothing new for politics in general or for New York politics in specific.

The thing with business is when records are destroyed, you need to make a record of the destruction of the records, so there are always records.

So let's say they claimed all their records from 2016 were destroyed in a fire. There would be records of the fire. And they could rebuild many of their records based on the surviving records from the payroll company, accounting company, and even the IRS.

If the the documents DON'T exist, then the judge is nuts.

2016 is well within the 7 year window that they absolutely need to have records on who they employed. These days the real window is closer to 20 years. Saying they have no records from 2016 is a crime.

If they actually admit the records do not exist, and then do not provide evidence of an innocent reason they do not, then trump is going to PRISON. No one plays these games.
