Twitter reportedly nearing deal to sell itself to Elon Musk

You wingers are delusionary, anything and everything Musk does is all about Musk, something as free speech never enters his mind
So what's your complaint? Twitter was not about free speech before Musk took over. If nothing changes you should be satisfied.

Why does he speak about it then? Plenty of power people speak about things they don't mean of course but if he's only out for himself what's the economic benefit to him of saying he's a free speech absolutist and suggesting various changes for Twitter?

Because being Musk, his reality is by whatever he is thinking at that moment, he feels no compulsion to answer to anyone or commitment he made at some previous time, as I said, everything Musk does is about Musk

You don't become the richest person in the world by not giving a sh*t. Clearly he has a strategy here. So what's his play to bring that up? How does he benefit economically?

Or is he just trolling and knows talking about free speech pisses off liberals?

Twitter, before and after Mush purchases it, is never about free speech, it is a private company, it can do as it likes, and I could care less about it, my only exposure to it is seeing usually asinine tweets reproduced here. Anyone who relies on a vehicle limited to 280 characters for information is easy prey

This would be a -1 for me because I said that there was no way that Musk would be allowed to control Twitter, controlling conversations is too important to the WOKE. . I note however that the EU is passing laws that demand that stuff on the internet and apps like Twitter be censored vigorously for "hate speech" and fined if they dont. I dont see how Twitter would be allowed to operate in Europe as a free speech platform, which decreases its value.

I wonder if the calculous is that they will take the money and then Twitter will be forced by law to conform to WOKE.

First off, none if it now, or ever, was ever about free speech, another abstract concept the right has turned into a bumper sticker

What was his strategy in spending billions to fly into space? No one knows what his intentions for Twitter are, but whatever they are they will center on and around Musk with no particular dedication to the "free speech" hope we are seeing here

Woke shmoke, woke is getting like "deep state," "those guys," "you know," amorphic, amoebic, can be reshaped without defining to fit just about any situation, you don't like, cause it's woke

It can be hard to let the dream of paper gains go. But for others, who had options granted at other points, this locks in a real gain, while staving off the risk the stock will decline, as the tech sector appears poised to do.
Sometimes they take options in leu of salary. So if they took them when stock prices were up but stock prices fell they aren't worth anything.

Say they had options to buy stock at $190 a share but the stock went down instead of growing the options are worthless.

Its obvious they did not WANT to sell Twitter or else they would not have tried to prevent it. But yes some of them will git richer. But they will also lose their political power.

Yes, but if they took the options when prices were lower and now they get to pocket this premium, they'll be laughing all the way to the bank.

To some extent, the reaction will vary from person to person depending on his or her view of the true value of the business. For a true believer, this will seem to lock in a low price on a company that is really worth more like $70/share. For someone disillusioned, though, this will look like an egomaniacal oligarch just overpaid for a bucket of shit as a kind of vanity purchase, and they'll be breathing a sigh of relief for having offloaded their shares to the bigger fool.

For my part, I didn't have strong feelings about it either way, which is why I neither went out and bought shares nor shorted them.

Notice your need to control terminology and conversations. One of my many problems with conservatives is that even at this late date too few have figured out how important this is to the Revolution, that once they have adopted the WOKEs language controls they have already lost.

You’re acting like Musk is different than anyone else who focuses on themselves. We all do. He’s given lots of lip service to supporting absolute free speech. How that manifests itself in action remains to be seen. Clearly people are paying attention to his rhetoric because there have been people on the left declaring the end of democracy if he takes over and allows free speech on the platform.

nope reporter access is privileged. WH puts put press releases for anyone, but personal reporters can be banned.. Twitter complete banning of politic speech is "un-American"
see how it sucks to hide behind "private" when talking about political speech/coverage?

That's interesting spin.

Not free speech, it will be Musk's interpretation of free speech, he'll still have an edit button

And while we are here, interesting read on college sports and the direction they are headed (https://www.si.com/college/2022/04/...text=SOUTH BEND, Ind.,change as the mid-2030s.)

Notre Dame AD sees two divisions forming, one representing the school, and the other employing the school name as an independent business that’s engaged in sports, in other words, the end of college sports as we know it today

USC better hurry up

of course it's about free political speech.
traditionally all speech is allowed unless it's criminal..even "misinformation"
( a lot of which turned out wasn't so)
