It remains to be seen if it's good for free speech. Sure, Musk is talking a good game right now. But we're talking about a major platform becoming the personal plaything of a single oligarch -- and that oligarch has a history of playing hard-ball to try to silence his critics. Right wingers are taking a whole lot on faith here.

Musk has put out supporting statements as well supporting free speech on Twitter
It can't be any worse then the totalitarian left with secret algorithims coupled with political bias to de=platforming

The right is putting a lot of hope on the idea that because he's recently been talking the free speech talk, he'll remake Twitter into the wild west. But that sure isn't the way he's been in the past. And now he'll be in a position to, say, deplatform or shadow-ban anyone who criticizes Tesla or Space-X.

It can be hard to let the dream of paper gains go. But for others, who had options granted at other points, this locks in a real gain, while staving off the risk the stock will decline, as the tech sector appears poised to do.

It could very surely be worse than the current situation. Remember, currently there's no individual who has a majority stake in the company. They're answerable to many bosses, which limits what they are likely to do. That changes the minute it basically becomes Newscorp -- an outlet ultimately beholden only to a single billionaire. Right now, that has right-wingers champing at the bit, because they see in black and white, and right now they perceive him as the white knight -- their oligarch riding in to remove the obstacles to disinformation and Donald Trump. But that could well change overnight, if Musk gets his nose bent out of joint by something Trump says, bans him, and basically says "it's my company, I'll do whatever I want with it."

Why does he speak about it then? Plenty of power people speak about things they don't mean of course but if he's only out for himself what's the economic benefit to him of saying he's a free speech absolutist and suggesting various changes for Twitter?
