DeSantis signs law allowing tenured teachers to be fired for politics

Yeah, if you like autocracy, and to think not that long ago before the right became the cult of Trump conservatives told us the less Government interference the better

Yes

First came government is bad

Then came America is not a democracy

All while they were cheating in elections to increase their power

University professors have in the main betrayed America....Tenure did not prevent that.....and Universities are now generally fundamentally anti American and anti-democratic....

I cant get very worked up over tenure review.

That’s a good one, now college professors are traitors, and unAmerican

I’d ask why but I’d rather not have to read generalizations about some dimwitted teachers employed to describe all teachers in America

Wacks guy said it all began with the kids born in 1995

That means kids just old enough to experience 911 and understand enough to be truely effected

They don’t trust like those of us who were even a bit older

Older children were old enough to retain a world image BEFORE 911

Then these kids saw the financial world fall under their feet

And we’re just old enough to process what that meant to their world

Thanks republicans

so u would be OK with a teacher teaching Hitler Nazis was/is GREAT and Hitler was on the right side of WW2

So you would support a Nazi teacher and be against his firing....Got it!

Do many teachers teach “Hitler was great and Hitler was on the right side of WW2?”

And if I took a class on Hitler I would expect to hear explanations on why the German people thought he was great and why they thought he was on the right side of WW2

Willful ignorance is how you manage to stay so dumb.

So you are telling me listening to a heavily partisan individual who speaks in undocumented generalizations makes one intelligent?

Comparable to saying one can learn a lot watching Tucker Carlson, same thing, except your guy makes it appear more intellectual

I am telling you that casting a wide net when seeking knowledge is indispensable...the fact that you dont and argue against it is proof that your ignorance is willful.

No problem at all...and there are TONS more examples:

~ “We need to get back to the basics:This [CRT] is not what we need to be teaching in our schools. I want to continue to keep my kids in public school, but their educators need to teach them the basics.”

National examples of Critical Race Theory include:

A Philadelphia elementary school forced fifth-graders to celebrate “Black communism” and simulated a Black Power rally to “free Angela Davis” from prison. At this school, 87 percent of students will fail to achieve basic literacy by graduation. More here.
Seattle Public Schools t “you are racist” and “you are upholding racist ideas, structures, and policies.” They recommended that the teachers undergo “antiracist therapy.” More here.
An elementary school in Cupertino, California forced third-graders to deconstruct their racial identities, then rank themselves according to their “power and privilege.” More here.

A middle school in Springfield, Missouri, forced teachers to locate themselves on an “oppression matrix,” .
The Arizona Department of Education created an “equity” toolkit

National Examples of woke corporate trainings include:

Raytheon, the nation’s second-largest defense contractor, has launched a Critical Race Theory program that encourages white employees to confront their “privilege,” reject the principle of “equality,” and “defund the police.”
Bank of America teaches that the United States is a system of “white supremacy,”
A Google employee program claims that America is a “system of white supremacy” and that all Americans are “raised to be racist.”
thank you.
The typical modus operandi for Dems is to do crazy stuff (Build back better, CRT type brainwashing 1619 etc.) and then when called on it absolutely they pretend they have no idea what they are doing

I'm all up for political debate, but when they start that denial I've gotten tothe point I'm not going to do research on what they are saying to point out their own positions

So when that happens I'm like "see you in November midterms" and move on to something constructive

You seem like a guy who wouldn’t know a college classroom from an AA meeting.

Isn’t that the piece on safetyism?

It may be. TBH I only read a small piece of it yet but I did listen to a long podcast with he and Bari Weiss last week where he discussed the column he got into how he has had to change how he teaches because he can’t challenge students anymore because all it takes is one student out of a class of 300 to report him. (And how social media is hurting kids and ultimately discourse in our country.). I find him fascinating and his book that I referenced has made me rethink how I parent my daughter

it might help . at least weed out the radical indoctrinations

“DeSantis, other state officials, go after university professors, tenure protection”

“The Tuesday bill signing of SB 7044 included a number of higher education measures, but the tenure issue was a main focus.”

“The bill, now a law, states that “The Board of Governors may adopt a regulation requiring each tenured state university faculty member to undergo a comprehensive post tenure review every 5 years.”

“Sprowls, a Republican representing part of Pinellas County, implied that some tenured professors could hold a student’s grade over their head for not believing in certain ideals, that there are some who come to indoctrinate”

“Higher education is important but it needs to be accountable, DeSantis said. I think what tenure does, if anything, is created more of an intellectual orthodoxy, where people who have dissenting views, it’s harder for them to even become tenured in the first place. And then once you’re tenured your productivity really declines, particularly in certain disciplines.”

“DeSantis and officials gathered for a bill signing — not at a state university or anywhere related to higher education — but at The Villages in Sumter County in Central Florida, where a majority of residents are senior citizens and where DeSantis has visited many times.”

https://floridaphoenix.com/2022/04/...ter-university-professors-tenure-protections/
https://www.insidehighered.com/quicktakes/2022/04/20/florida-passes-posttenure-review-law

So another words, if you don’t teach what DeSantis wants, you are going to get fired, that college professors can be canned for political reasons. Ronnie just can’t get over the embarrassment the Florida Universities caused him last year

Last week private businesses, this week, higher education, goes right along with his election police from last year. DeSantis is doing his best to squash any criticism of his autocratic policies, the mere fact he celebrated this bill in the Villages just about says it all

The “Freedom State,” as long as you don’t express opinions against the Governor or his policies
Good to many of them treat their classrooms as their private fiefdom and the kids are captive audiences

And all it takes now this deeply into this dark age to ruin people is an accusation or two....back when we were better proof was required...presented in a process were the accused could refute the charge.

We were also innocent until proven guilty....that is all gone now.

That’s according to one of the politicians at the press release, and the “indoctrination” theme is a political talking point, the whole move is political, you didn’t think it was pretty obvious when they decided upon the Villages to sign the bill
what is the significance of the Villiages as the venue? *asking*

It aint no talking point. I realize you will never watch FOX (and MSNBC is vile for my taste)
but Laura Ingram has been on the woke crap being shoved on kids by school boards
way before the virginia governors election

This was like Loudon and Fairfafx counties - super blue areas - that couldn't pull the election out for the Dem.. Parents went on the warpath for a reason
