bill stripping Disney of self governing status goes to Governor for signing

Understanding Psychological Reactance
Reactance – the motivation to regain a freedom after it has been lost or threatened – leads people to resist the social influence of others....

...Reactance is an unpleasant motivational arousal that emerges when people experience a threat to or loss of their free behaviors. It serves as a motivator to restore one’s freedom. The amount of reactance depends on the importance of the threatened freedom and the perceived magnitude of the threat. Internal threats are self-imposed threats arising from choosing specific alternatives and rejecting others. External threats arise either from impersonal situational factors that by happenstance create a barrier to an individual’s freedom or from social influence attempts targeting a specific individual...

... On the behavioral side, threatened people may exhibit the restricted behavior (direct restoration) or may observe others performing a related behavior (indirect restoration). They may aggressively force the threatening person to remove the threat or they may behave in a hostile and aggressive way just to let off steam (aggression). On the cognitive side, people may derogate the source of threat, upgrade the restricted freedom, or downgrade the imposed option...

Old meme which some old hag and her crybully gang tried to have me banned for using:

I remember when my uncle showed me a recorded movie on a VHS tape that was shown on Fox channel (yes that was before censorship) and I watched. There was this naked lady riding a horse with her yuge tits going up and down as she rode. My jaw was on the floor and he just laughed and laughed so hard.

Also there was no censorship on PBS. Good times.

It seems Disney is a great business for Florida, things like this may not happen now because of DeSantis. I don’t know that your son does, but this is going to hurt a lot of people and your son may be one of them. The Trumpublicans are slowly realizing what their knee jerk action has done.

I disagree, while Disney will not pay any additional taxes, and services such as fire power, utilities will be picked up by the counties they will lose self governing power meaning building codes, new construction, and a host of other things will now be controlled by the counties and state. Overall I believe this is a big loss for Disney all because of political correctness. BTW I fully support not teaching sex or sexual preferences to kids younger than 3rd grade.

Do you remember the name of the movie? LOL

My guess is that DeSantis will hurt himself more than he'll hurt Disney. The anti-business aspect of Trumpism is hurting the Republican Party.

Money can be lost and new rules drawn up, but a political bullet through one's own foot is a career ender.

I don't know about that. One thing I will say about DeSantis is he doesn't back away from a fight. That is kind of refreshing to see in a politician. But I am mystified why Disney jumped into this fight in the first place.

The bill now heads to the governor's desk

The move could have huge tax implications for Disney, whose series of theme parks have transformed Orlando into one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations, and serves to further sour the relationship between the Republican-led government and a major political player in the state.

The special status, known as The Reedy Creek Improvement Act, was signed into law in May 1967 by Gov. Claude Kirk in response to lobbying efforts by Disney. The entertainment giant proposed building a recreation-oriented development on 25,000 acres of property in a remote area of Central Florida's Orange and Osceola counties, which consisted of 38.5 square miles of largely uninhabited pasture and swampland.

Orange and Osceola County did not have the services or resources needed to bring the project to life, so the state legislature worked with Disney to establish the Reedy Creek Improvement District, a special taxing district that allows the company to act with the same authority and responsibility as a county government.
Republicans are currently trying to go down two diametrically opposed paths simultaneously. They are trying to be "free speech martyrs" when it comes to private companies screening out material they think is disinformation, yet at the same time they're trying to make partisan use of the power of government to punish those who had the temerity to speak negatively about Republican policies.

When you're masterminding a scheme to use government power to intimidate into silence those who disagree with your policies, you're in no position to pose as someone who cares about free speech. What's going on with Florida attacking Disney fits much more closely with the traditional definition of censorship than private companies screening what kind of content they'll host.

Which is why I'm curious to see how it all plays out.

The tax code has to apply equally to all. They can't write a bill to tax Disney more than other property owners without violating the Florida and US Constitutions.
They were saying Disney wouldn't be paying taxes moron.

So you are fine with Disney being treated exactly the same as everyone else. Thanks for proving my point.
