The parliaments of Latvia and Estonia — former Soviet states that are now members of NATO and the European Union — officially declared on Thursday that Russia has committed genocide in Ukraine.

The Riigikogu, Estonia’s parliament, “recognizes as genocide against the Ukrainian people the actions of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and its political and military leadership in conducting the renewed military aggression against Ukraine,” the legislature said in a statement on Thursday.

The parliament said that Russia had committed acts of genocide in areas including Mariupol, Bucha and Borodyanka, among others.

“These have consisted of murders, enforced disappearances, deportations, imprisonment, torture, rape, and desecration of corpses,” according to the statement.

Sounds good, but who is going to arrest him? At best, would just be a symbolic move, perhaps hurt him in terms of the West reengaging Russia in world economics, which would hurt, but otherwise, don't see what it would produce

You're talking about the small number of individuals that form their respective governments who are free to officially announce anything they like- but it carries no weight.

We all know he will not get arrested. It was a political statement made against a leader committing genocide against people who were no threat to him at all.

So you say- but that's simply the anti-Russian narrative at this point.

Quite symbolic that these are two former Soviet Union republics. Lukashenko, take note.

If there aren't peace talks soon there isn't going to be anything left in Uk.
It's looking worse the Syria -which is decimated from 10 years of civil war

NATO should stop the fucking war games and start insisting on talks

Vlad can't win this war

Quickest way for peace to break out--> the invader withdraws from the sovereign territory of independent Ukraine and go back to their own country.

I would like to see Dick Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Vlad in the Hague on war crimes charges, but I don't see it happening.

At a minimum, acts like these can save lives.

There are some consciencious field commanders in the Russian army who might be motivated to keep better military order and discipline among their forces, knowing that war crimes are leaving the world community in shock.

Pooty Boy better watch his back, as more people in Russia hates him now more than ever.

Don't believe stories about how popular he is in Russia, as those numbers are as fake as a Donald Trump evangelistic revival and Bar-B-Q!

Putin has his loyalists, I'm sure he treats them well. Putin knows he's a dead man walking, Babbling Biden keeps talking trials. He should keep his ignorant mouth shut. It's just a matter of time and Putin knows it, so he really doesn't give a shit who he kills.

None of that is genocide.

You're talking about the small number of individuals that form their respective governments who are free to officially announce anything they like- but it carries no weight.

The parliaments of Latvia and Estonia adopted these resolutions, not "the small number of individuals that form their governments".

What do you want, a referendum? You wouldn't accept it even then.

As I said- a small number of individuals- probably locked into the mindset of party leadership which has its head up its ass- like yours.

To the contrary, referenda empower the people- and that's why governments hate them .

Get off the Kremlin state media, and look at the photos and drone aerial video of cities like Kharkiv, Marupiel, and others.

Once vibrant Ukranian cities shelled into smouldering piles of ash and eliminated from the face of the Earth is about as clear cut an act of genocide as it gets.

I'm not sure that destruction of buildings qualifies as genocide. Can you elaborate ?
