”Florida rejects 54 math books, claiming critical race theory appeared in some.”

“The Florida education department has rejected 54 mathematics textbooks for its K-12 curriculum, citing reasons spanning the inclusion of critical race theory to Common Core learning concepts.”

“The rejected books make up a record 41% of the 132 books submitted for review, the Florida Department of Education said in a statement.”

“Of them, 28 were rejected because they "incorporate prohibited topics or unsolicited strategies, including [critical race theory]," the statement said.”

Love to see how one uses mathematics to teach CRT, maybe referring to select numbers as Prime designates class, especially if you write them using black ink. Don’t tell me making those denominators always on the bottom isn’t Marxists.

DeSantis just can’t help himself, attempting to portray himself as Trump lite, he has to insert all the right catch phrases and dog whistles in everything he says and does, in fact, nearly everything he does is centered upon the same theme

Is it your position that textbooks should be allowed to contain any sort of content the author(s) choose regardless of what that content is?

even those on a short bus get word problems in math. you remember riding on the short bus, right Forest?

Teaching that the Hindu-Arabic number system is superior to the western Roman numeral system is bound make children of European descent feel guilty or inferior.

Nice try at ad hominem as a red herring. The question on the table is, should states regulate textbook content?

it was not purely ad hominem - he/she/it tried to pretend math books are purely calculations and I pointed out word problems are verbose and can introduce all kinds of topics.

The word problems I make up for my kids include things they can relate to. I also include the names of the kids in my classes. I make word problems using basketball rivalries, directional drilling or rough necking jobs, hauling hay, hunting, fishing, fertilizing fields, building fence, planting crops, etc.

So yes, word problems can be used to introduce or reinforce all kinds of things.

They can, but those word problems shouldn't be based on politics or social issues.

Of course not, but if you are rejecting a larger number of books unrelated to the humanities studies based upon something that isn't even taught one would have to ask why, especially when no explanation was given

It has nothing to do with reviewing appropriate books to fit the currciulum, rather just DeSantis taking another excuse to sneak the irreverent which appeals to the base
