there is no battle other than Tesla vs Detroit. Tesla has already won that and Detroit will lose a lot of money which means the US will too.

EV's are just cheaper to repair, being simpler devices. Even now when there are not many mechanics for EV's, and the parts are not being mass produced, EV's are 43% cheaper to keep on the road than ICE's. Prices for maintaining a EV will come down sharply, which means that EV's will be even cheaper.

So if you need a cheap old car to run, you would do better getting an EV... In a decade or two when they become old cars.

they are simpler and as a result have fewer things to break but many of those simple parts are quite expensive. batteries being a perfect example. Folks of humble means cannot pony up 5gs for a replacement its just that simple and that battery WILL die.

and another 800lb gorilla is how they are impacted by hot or cold weather, especially cold. I happen to live in a fairly temperate state (VA) but thats a fairly narrow swath across the country.

should be interesting to watch Detroit's EV fortunes but they would be smart to stick to their high end models.

I preface my comment by saying we are all individuals and just because we may be on a particular political 'side' doesn't mean we agree on everything with people on our 'side'. I am so intrigued by the response to Elon Musk, both on this board and out in the real world. If I'm reading your responses correctly clearly you are more of a fan of the man. But reading other liberal posters here he's little more than a massive blowhard and one went as far to call him a Nazi because of the racism he allows at Tesla.

In this particular instance you are going against the grain of your fellow travelers on the left in your support of Musk. I'm asking this with honest curiosity (like if we were having a beer and chatting), has the response towards him from other liberals changed your view of him at all?

But you're partly right about Musk. I'm a fan of Tesla CEO Musk. He took massive risks, made bold decisions and became very successful.
Not a real fan of him as a person. He's a little too eccentric for me. But I'll give him a pass because he's Asperger's and, having an aspie daughter, I'm aware of the incredible challenges for someone on the spectrum.

And you answer your question, since I'm not a liberal and never have been, I really don't care what you or they think of Musk. I admire entrepreneurs, visionaries, engineering brilliance like Edison, Ford, Gates, Jobs and yes Musk.

I'm with you in thinking he's an amazing entrepreneur. I'm personally excited to see what he does at Twitter. And you're right, he is eccentric.

Based on what you post here, basically all pro-Democrats, anti-Republican was where I was coming from with saying liberal. But it wasn't about trying to label you more than hearing differing opinions and in this case Musk doesn't currently rate very favorably among many Democrats/liberals but you are more a fan of his work. (It would be something like me and Trump. I'm not the only Republican who didn't vote for him but clearly I'm in the minority to not do so.) I like hearing why others think or believe what they do (especially in a case like this where it goes against the grain).

I was a registered Republican for 40 years but now I'm an independent. I actually considered voting for Trump because I liked the idea of a businessman/non-politician being in the White House. I voted for Perot in 92. I didn't know much about Trump other than he was a billionaire and hosted The Apprentice. But, it didn't take me long to realize he had major shortcomings and was a world-class charlatan.
I never thought I would say this but at this point, I am 100% anti-Republican. Their fealty to Trump is sickening and morons like MTGazpacho, Boebert, Gaetz, Gosar, Cruz are just too much to tolerate.

My point was more to hear an opinion of someone who isn't on the right but likes Musk. As stated, we're all individuals and can hold our own views. In this case Musk is currently not popular among those on the left so it's interesting IMO to hear differing viewpoints.

I'm not seeing that among the liberals I know although they aren't far left extremists. I know three liberals who own Teslas. They all LOVE Musk if that helps. Not sure what you can gather from my view because of the small sample size.
