People who live with a gun present face twice the risk of death by homicide

You don’t need a gun? Oh, man this just blows me away. I thought all suicides were by gun. Damn, this is so enlightening. Thanks, Rune

Yes, but suicide by gun is more likely if there is a gun in the house.
Can you prove that suicide is more likely if there is a gun?
No, you can't.
All of those deaths may still have occurred.

I choose not to own a gun.
But im in a pretty safe neighborhood and am in Florida where they still lock people up

Heller (SCOTUS) says gun ownership is an individual right, and many cities have seen an explosion of gun/homicides

Let people protect themselves, if that is their wish

But very few, even a speck of Americans, are attacked by anyone, got a better chance getting hit by lightning, you probably wear sneaks 24/7 thinking it keeps you grounded, same logic

and given the tens of millions of guns in the home lets us realize how stupid you are to worry about the tiny percentage of people killed by guns in their home......

In a domestic dispute spiraling out of control, it is a lot easier to shoot someone during a momentary loss of control due to rage or drug fueled craze than it it to drive a knife into their heart.

Very few people have the nerve, even at their most enraged, to plunge a knife into someone's chest, and repeatedly stab them until they're Dead.
See England and Australia

Suicide is not accidental death. Not sure why the obvious has to be stated.

60% of suicides are NOT by firearm, how 'bout dat?

When I was in school, a kid self immolated with a butcher knife in class. Glad it wasn't my class, because that was very traumatizing to those around, I'm sure. Over a girl.

Guns don't kill people, people kill people.

A gun is a great equalizer for say an old grandma vs. a gang of young hoodlums. Old grandma with the gun can protect herself. I like that.
So he burned himself to death with a butcher knife?
How unusual.

spare the bullet, spoil the child......

That's 1/2 (really more than) the problem with America right now. Parents and schools aren't allowed to discipline children like they used to be able to.

Therefore the kids grow up to be adults that have no discipline and behave like grown toddlers throwing temper-tantrums.

A few swats on the ass and a strong "No" when they're young could fix a lot.

I don't understand the stigma that goes with suicide.
Shouldn't people be entitled to decide when they've had enough?

When the rewards don't adequately compensate the travails, life becomes a net-negative experience.
Sometimes people just get sick of it.
How is that hard to understand?

"It is a belief that helped drive a historic rise in U.S. firearms sales and first-time gun owners during the COVID-19 pandemic: Having a handgun at home for personal protection will make you safer

"Groundbreaking new research conducted over a 12-year period shows that the opposite is true"

"Between October 2004 and the end of 2016, adults in the state who didn’t own a gun but took up residence with someone who did were much more likely to die a violent death than people in households without a handgun, researchers from Stanford University found"

"Those who lived with a handgun owner were almost twice as likely to die by homicide as their neighbors without guns, the researchers found. More specifically, adults who lived with the owner of a handgun were almost three times more likely to be killed with a firearm than in households where no handguns were present."

Is it any wonder that the NRA, ie gun manufacturers, with the aid of the GOP, have bitterly fought against any research being done on guns and gun deaths? Common sense, a gun in the house drastically increases your chances of becoming a victim of that gun, not the burglar or home invader, but rather by someone you know

But the right's solution to gun violence in America, again inbred by the gun manufactures' propaganda, is that more houses should have guns, the more guns, the safer one is, which has been proven a lie

So you should sponsor a "buy a republican a gun" drive.

Im all for it.
