‘Breathtaking’ boost to China’s nuclear arsenal '

Anyone that thinks we had the capability of stopping hundreds of ICBMs is delusional. We can't stop hypersonic missiles but we couldn't stop multiple ICBMs either.
we could destroy traditional ICBM in the sub orbital phase of launch.. not hypersonic, yes

What a load of nonsense.

2) hypersonic missiles are little more threat to humanity than ICBM's are as there is no known way to stop a mass attack of ICBM's.
So even if Russia/China had a bunch of hypersonic missiles and we do not? They are just as vulnerable from a massed-ICBM attack then as they are now.

3) the ONLY real threat from hypersonic missiles are hard-to-kill targets using conventional weapons...like aircraft carriers, etc..
pretty much. from the OP regarding strategic deterrance.

as to hypersonics on high value target - naval defenses are improving
~~

This technological advancement on China’s part would mean “serious implications for strategic stability,” the admiral has warned, adding that the US military capabilities and strategies rely on an “assumption that strategic deterrence, and in particular nuclear deterrence, will hold.”

“If strategic or nuclear deterrence fails, integrated deterrence and no other plan or capability in the DoD will work as designed,”

Maybe Trump's despicable treatment of the Chinese wasn't such a smart move. Huawei anybody ?

I'm not worried.....I bought a shipment of Chinese electronic cigarettes a few years back.........only about ten percent of them actually worked......I figure the Chinese are going to need about ten times more nuclear weapons than they think they do......

Well, they are going to have to improve a LOT more.

Because, my understanding is that even the latest AEGIS system...cannot even track a hypersonic missile.
Let alone one that is maneuvering - which ICBM's do not do - and deploying decoys.
Let alone lock on to it long enough to destroy it.
Let alone destroy it even if they can lock onto it.

That is the thing with these hypersonic missiles.
Not only do they fly incredibly fast and low?
But they can also deploy decoys and maneuver.
Pretty difficult to destroy a constantly, erratically, maneuvering missile coming in on you low (which means less time to engage thanks to the horizon) and at Mach 5-10+ - even with a laser.

If Russia/China ever develop hypersonic missiles that can hit a ship reliably?
The US Navy's, Carrier Strike Group's are in HUGE trouble unless they ramp up their defenses MASSIVELY.

What a total waste of energy and money when time is running out for the entire planet due to capitalist techno-pricks fucking up the climate.

At celebrating the destruction of mankind and underestimating U.S. strategic defense forces, consider the following details when it comes to having a deterrence capability:

US hypersonic missile successful in flight test, DARPA says
The US reportedly kept the test a secret for weeks for fear of spooking Moscow, following Russia's own hypersonic use.

The World's Most Powerful Militaries
The United States in comparison, has significantly less - 1.4 million - but when assessing the overall power of the world's military forces, the U.S. comes out on top, ahead of Russia and China in second and third, respectively." This would be in terms of firepower.

That's the way I see it. :awesome:

They'll Wile E. Coyote themselves with their crappy manufacturing.
