Yeah, by the time the numbers were that high, it was pretty obvious he wasn't bluffing.
I was surprised Putin made this move because it seemed (and has proven to be) incredibly stupid, and I thought Putin was smarter. Trump has always claimed that Vlad was a genuis.
Well, if his goal was simply to keep Ukraine from joining NATO and/or the EU, he has succeeded. Even if he pulls out completely today, Ukraine will be near bankrupt just trying to rebuild back from a third world country status.
Vlad told Russian citizens he was in Ukranie to denazify the country and remove their fascist government from power.
If Vlad withdraws and leaves the democratic government of Zalensky in place, that would be a complete strategic defeat for Vlad.
Must save face. Do you think the oligarchs or others will remove him?

We thought so, but I doubt it.
There is a history of going from oligarch to prison inmate in mere minutes.
I am not sure. Some of the oligarchs claim they only have indirect influence on Putin and no direct access to him. That only the SOVBEZ, the state security council has any direct a access or influence. They claim the West overestimates the political capital of the oligarchs.
I don't know exactly where the truth lies.
