Kremlin responds to Bucha war crimes claims
Ukrainian allegations against Russian troops should be properly investigated, not taken at face value, Moscow said


Ukrainian allegations that Russian troops were involved in war crimes in the city of Bucha near Kiev are not true, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday. The claims need to be properly investigated and not taken at face value by foreign leaders, he suggested.

Information provided by the Ukrainian side “should be subject to serious skepticism,” the official said of the allegations made by Kiev. He claimed Russian military specialists found evidence of video manipulation and other forms of fabrication coming from Bucha.

“The facts and the timeline likewise speak against the veracity of the claims,” he added.

Wars result in atrocities. This is normal. Wars presumably fought for some reason by countries distill down to us against them on the ground. Soldiers want to survive to go home to their families and some people are shooting at them. They take it personally. You can be sure that Ukraine's who are burying their children and families have done horrible things to Russian captors too. War is ugly and Putin's chosen one is no different.

So are Biden and Zelensky. Putin is fighting for security, Zelensky's fight is existential. Biden is fighting for corporate profits, the disruption of trans-European commerce- and all under the fig-leaf of a 19th century romantic NATO ideal.

There was a full investigation into the downing of Malaysian airliner MH17 over eastern Ukraine in 2014, with the loss of 298 lives. There was overwhelming evidence that it was shot down by a Russian Buk missile 'lent' to the Donbas separatists. The Kremlin still denies it.
