It seems that most ordinary Russians don't believe there is a war at all, because that's what the state media is telling them.

But when the soldiers go home, how will the government stop them telling the truth? Putin is storing up a lot of trouble for himself.

As long as Putin can control everything that people see and hear, there may be some truth in that lol.

But he can't do that forever. It didn't work in Soviet times and it has less chance of working now.

Not sure about that, but there certainly seems to be a disconnect between what is happening in Ukraine and what Russians at home think is happening in Ukraine.

The more body bags showing up, even if Putin has banned families from discussing the loss of their sons, will have a negative effect. The fact many Russian soldiers are being left behind in Ukraine is also notable.

I hope it's effective, but I have my doubts.

I spent years telling conservatives on this board and it's predecessors that their Iraq War was going badly and had been based on lies. Almost none of them were ever convinced, and we actually have a free press here. In Russia, all the rubes have is Kremlin state media; what was left of the independent media was kneecapped.
