They have a relationship
It’s seems Mr Rock did not feel charges were needed
It was an incident the harmed man felt didn’t needed police intervention

There can be so many different, yet partially correct takes on this. I will just express one of the things which crossed my mind.
Rock is an abusive pussy who's made a career out of misogyny. And he acted like a pussy last night when confronted by a man. He was so shocked. Shocked because a man stood up to him. He reminds me of the right wingers here, big mouths who love to demean women, but you can bet they sit quietly in real life when there's a man around who might be in the position to retaliate. Chris Rock never thought Will Smith would be in the position to retaliate because he was on camera. So it's no surprise to me that right wing men think Chris Rock is the aggrieved party.
Don't forget, if you insult Ted Cruz's wife he will retaliate by licking your ass in public. Is that a man? Out of Will Smith, Chris Rock, and Ted Cruz I see one man (however flawed) in the mix.

What do you think should be the penalty for a man slapping another man for no legitimate reason? Although shocked, Rock continued the show without harm except for the pain of the slap and the indignity of it.
Had that happened to you, what would you do or expect to be done for this injustice, volsrock?
Not a lawyer, but legally, like being asked to define a woman, there are laws for defined actions. I expect minor assault charges with a plea of guilty and sentence of community service, which could include cash donations to accepted charities...with a tax write-off.
