Biden approval rating falls to record low in NBC News poll

President Biden's approval rating as reached a new low, according to an NBC News poll released Sunday.

Biden's overall approval rating declined to 40 percent in the survey, which found that 55 percent of respondents did not approve of how he is doing as president.

In a January NBC News poll, Biden's job approval stood at 43 percent while 54 percent did not approve of his performance.

Seven out of 10 Americans questioned in the new poll expressed low confidence in Biden's ability to handle the ongoing conflict between Russia, Ukraine and other western nations, the poll found, and eight in 10 worry the tensions will result in higher gas prices for Americans and lead to nuclear war.

The same survey found Republicans held a 2-point advantage when asked which party should control Congress following this fall's November midterm elections.

The poll comes on the heels of Biden's emergency trip to Europe to meet with world leaders about the escalating conflict in Ukraine.

A new Public Policy Institute of California poll (which you can check out here) will no doubt fuel the frets of candidates and campaign managers on the left. Two Democratic standard-bearers, Gov. Gavin Newsom and President Joe Biden, have seen their numbers slide in the less than two months since PPIC’s last poll: Newsom is down to 50-45 approval from 57-41 two months ago, and Biden has dipped underwater, to 46-51 approval from 49-49 (Sen. Dianne Feinstein plunged to a new nadir of 55 percent disapproval.) That doesn’t mean Newsom is in serious peril of losing reelection. But it does indicate a broader disillusionment — something Democrats will need to surmount.

He's handling it well.

Uncertainty is likely driving the poll #'s. If the war ends and the economy responds positively, it could turn for him pretty easily.

There were wars when Trump was in office also…. And conditions. If he had handlers Covid well he would have been very popular.

Putin has a war. Biden does not. Putin is making a real mess. The embargos are not going away. The Russian economy will shrink by about 50 percent in the follow-up. He has solidified the west and NATO as nobody thought possible. After it ends. the world will not accept an 'oops'. He is crossing swords with Russian oligarchs. he is the head of that club, but ask Caesar how well pissing off the rich worked for him.
It remains to see how desperate Putin will get and how Trumpian he is. Russia has an economy equal to Italy. They are no world power except in nukes.
