Storie from the Ukraine: nukes anyone?

Taichiliberal

Shaken, not stirred!
GMAFB with all this media hype BS about Russia possibly using nuke's in this Ukraine assault.
C'mon people, the Ukraine is right on Russia's back door....and they have several nuke power plants too boot. Dropping a nuke on them would be Chernobyl ten fold! And what fool thinks that all that radioactive fall out is going to stay put at the border.

As for NATO and the USA .... no, Putin is not stupid enough to start WW3. Mutual Assured Destruction has been around for a LONG time, and has not gone anywhere. I seriously doubt that those military folk surrounding Putin want to spend their golden years in an underground bunker. It seems once again, Putin blows smoke and the propaganda machines in America take the bait.

And let's not forget China just sitting back and taking all this in....they've got nukes too, ya know.

I just pray that this doesn't lead to US troops (advisers, whatever) being deployed to get their asses shot off for what is NOT a NATO country or a threat to our economy (we don't depend on Russian oil) or borders.

So are you OK with Russia attacking another country unprovoked? Didn't we see this back in the 30's with Germany

agree Putin is bluffing, and Xi isn't nuts enough to annihilate himself and his people either

also, just like with T****, the Russian top brass would ignore orders to launch, they know damn well it's suicide for them too

If Putin takes this ongoing genocide a few steps further the US and NATO may just need to take the skies and let the chips fall where they may, Putin has few options here, knows US airpower could knock out the entire Soviet air force in what, a week?

tactical nukes are designed to be used on a battlefield. Putin has them

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tactical_nuclear_weapon
A tactical nuclear weapon (TNW) or non-strategic nuclear weapon[1] is a nuclear weapon which is designed to be used on a battlefield in military situations mostly with friendly forces in proximity and perhaps even on contested friendly territory

So are you OK with Russia attacking another country unprovoked? Didn't we see this back in the 30's with Germany

Guno, WTF are you going on about? The POINT of the OP is that this latest talking point is just Putin Propaganda....used by our media as well to justify any and all expenditures in this endeavor.

Your comparison doesn't apply becasue NATO didn't exist in those days. Armed NATO countries are what scares pro-Soviets like Putin...and well they should because since the USSR fell Russians are more and more getting fed up and organized with their corrupt gov't. Hell, you have Russian soldiers refusing to shoot Ukrainian citizens!

And where was all this hype and concern over the years as similar situations occurred in the continent of Africa, or Asia, or what is now called the Middle East? Hypocrisy much?

That's nice....tell it to Mother Nature when she decides to blow a wind in a direction that the "experts" didn't expect to happen. Or tell it to the people in the surrounding "tactical" target area who want to grow crops. Are the Tac Nukes standard plutonium or uranium based, or are the neutron based. The last was designed under the Carter years, theoretically to irradiate an area for about 2-3 years only while leaving the building infrastructure intact.

WTF would be the point of irradiating parts of a country you want to take control of? And what if they accidentally hit one of those nuke power plants? I doubt the "Russian/Ukrainians" will appreciate being liberated to a country with nuke dead zones that weren't there before.

Once one rationally thinks it through, it's just another selling of wolf tickets. Don't believe the hype which is beneficial to the military/industrial complex of both countries.

I think old Pooty has bitten off more than he can chew. Let's see how his ego will work this to save face ... or will Russia have it's version of "Operation Valkyrie".

read the link as to their radiation and types.
Look at Chernoble. that was a lot of radiation, and it streamed the countryside.
Life goes on around it. It's not unthinkable to use a TNW or military wouldn't have them

There are scenarios for their use -originally designed to be used on a NATO/USSR all out battlefield
But there is no tactical reason couldn't be used against a mass of enemy forces
Of course that is "escalation"

I read the link. Here's a cornerstone you might have overlooked, "...There is no exact definition of the "tactical" category on range or yield of the nuclear weapon.[/FONT]"

Essentially this supports my previous post and renders what you say here mere moot speculation. If you STILL won't concede that point, then note these scary little details (NOTE THAT I MADE A MISTAKE IN MY EARLIER POST - THE RESIDUAL RADIATION FROM THE IMMEDIATE BLAST WOULD THEORECTICALLY LAST 2-3 MONTHS, NOT YEARS.);

Though It Seems Crazy Now, the Neutron Bomb Was Intended to Be Humane

So yes, Putin would have to be a new type of stupid to enact ANY type of "tactical" use of nukes in the Ukraine. Scenarios are always on the military table...the decision to enact them is a whole other smoke. As I said, wolf tickets being sold to the public of both countries to justify military actions...because NO ONE wants a new version of The Cuban Missile Crisis.

You can bet the Pentagon is tracking all 64 of Pooty's submarines as we speak!
