Why are US gas prices soaring when America barely uses Russian oil?

"Most of Russia's oil goes to Europe and Asia. But the key here is to think about the oil supply globally, rather than the US specifically. The commodities world is a heavily interconnected one, and oil is priced through a global market. So what happens in one area of the world can affect another...

...it's true that very little of that Russian supply goes to the United States — just 90,000 barrels of crude oil per day in December, according to the most recent US government statistics. In 2021, by contrast, Europe got 60% of Russia's oil exports and China got 20%. But remember that oil is bought and shipped around the world through a global commodities market. So in that sense it doesn't really matter who specifically is getting crunched by the loss of Russian oil, because lower supply affects those global prices no matter what.

... if Europe buys less Russian oil, it will have to replace it with oil from somewhere else — perhaps from the powerful Saudi Arabia-led Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries. That increase in demand for OPEC oil will send its crude prices higher. And guess who else buys hundreds of millions of barrels of OPEC oil? You guessed it: the United States.

How much crude oil does the United States import from Russia? Russia ranked ninth among the top 10 countries that the United States relies on for crude oil imports. In December 2021, the US imported 90,000 barrels per day from Russia."

I will tell you why, sister; Because Biden screwed the US oil production on his 1st day in office.

You didn't read the article, did you.

No, because I've already done my research as to why. I'll read it now.

Ok, from the CNN link: "But US oil producers can't or won't fill the supply gap, "

The fact is they can't because Biden hamstrung US oil production on his 1st day in office and he's not going to fix that, apparently, and doubling down on crazy alternatives.

He's going to Iran and Venezuela to import oil vs. admitting his policy is not working and it's time to try something else.

The sheer arrogance is going to plunge the entire world into a recession, most likely with food shortages.

Is it cheaper to cook a meal at home with food already in your fridge or to order out and have it delivered to you from across town? BTW.......Is Iranian oil greener than our own oil?

Right. it's fungible.

the solution is to replace russian oil with domestic u.s. oil.

You hate the concept of american power so you won't acknowledge reality.

You're missing the point. None of this has to do with Biden.

Nothing does,.......EVER. Funny how that works isnt it? ;) But if a mouse farts somewhere in Africa when a Republican is in office you can bet your ass its because the REPUBLICAN CAUSED IT. People grow weary of the bullshit. Not talking about YOU personally mind you,....just the SILLY game that gets played.

^ Why haven't we done so? Look at the graph inside the article. The US was the top crude oil producer in 2021, even ahead of Russia.

The last sentence of the article is the money quote but all you sheep can do is blame Biden.

From the article: "Russia was the No. 2 oil producer in the world in 2021, pumping out 9.7 million barrels a day — but the US is No. 1 with 10.2 million...But US oil producers can't or won't fill the supply gap, even though they could make a mint given the high prices and demand."...

All of the above underscores how oil and gas prices are tied to geopolitical events, the pandemic, drilling logistics and so much more."

All I'm doing is showing how the shortage comes from economic factors, not from any president. I never blamed trump when gas prices went up during his administration.

Russia Is United States’ Top Source Of Imported Gasoline

This shows why so many rightys are unreachable. Oil companies are looting this for all they can, making the highest profits in history. But you with your news sources believe it was all Biden. So sad.
I said it before, oil is traded on the commodities market and is speculated on. The Russian oil is out of the equation perhaps for a long time. I bet you can understand what that does to the world supply. European countries are looking for new sources.
What did Biden do to cause this and what could Trump have done differently?
Maybe trump would have tried to enter the conflict on the Russian side.
