The Russians have to take Kyiv

Anything less would be an admission of failure, and Putin cannot afford that now.

I believe the Russians have two options:

Either, stand off and bombard Kyiv with missiles and air strikes (chemical? biological?), possibly for months, hoping that resistance will eventually crack and the defenders will give in.

Or, what they may be trying to do now: surround the city and impose a close blockade to starve it out. This would require a well-manned perimeter of at least 100 km. The opinions I have seen suggest that the Russians lack both the forces and the coordination to do this effectively.

Either way, Putin’s pretence of ‘liberating’ Ukraine from ‘Nazis’ will be well and truly finished.

Russia blames Kyiv for 'catastrophic' humanitarian situation in Ukraine.

A senior Russian defence ministry official said that the humanitarian situation in Ukraine continued to decline rapidly and blamed the actions of Ukrainian fighters,
the Russian news agency RIA reported.

yeah, it's the Ukranians fault for defending their land against an illegal invader.

A lot of Putin propagandists, including some on this board, believed Ukrainians would welcome Putin's army with open arms.

Over one hundred thousand have gone to Russia. More to Belarus. Pro-Russian Donetsk and Lugansk have been secured.

Ukraine will never join NATO.

Ah, you have a third option! What would you recommend?

If you think the Russian army should storm Kyiv, I hope you understand that would be a disaster. Almost as much of a disaster as the collapse of the Soviet Union, lol.

It took the Russian army the best part of a year to gain a semblance of control in Chechnya by flattening it. Of course that was a purely internal matter. Ukraine ISN’T.

hammer the city with artillery - some jets
send in recon to find Uk forces and maybe go after zelensky

a lot depends on Russian probes of the cities defenses

Ukraine gets turned into rubble until they agree to the terms demanded by Russia...the program has not changed.

It'd be a Pyrrhic victory and they can't hold Kyiv much less Ukraine. When everyone is your enemy and outnumbers you 293 to 1*, then it's a losing proposition. Best to get out as quickly and with as few losses as possible.

Before long the Russians will be begging both the UN and NATO to protect them during their withdrawal. LOL

*44M pissed off Ukrainians and 150K Russian conscripts.

You mean the two-foot-high line of sandbags across some of the major streets? I bet Jarod's house in Florida has better defenses during hurricane season.

General Gimp speaks with his great amount of military experience gained from 100s of hours of online gaming. :rofl2:

Do you know what chokes points are, General Gimp? A holding action? A layered defense? There will be Ukrainians on the ground slowly withdrawing behind successive barriers and there will be Ukrainians on the rooftops lined with snipers and pissed off citizen raining Molotov cocktails down on poorly trained, poorly lead and highly demoralized Russian soldiers.

Go back to your video games, gimpy. Bullshitting people about your expertise isn't working for you.

Haw...........haw..............haw................haw.
Is that the best a lame-assed gimp like you can do against a veteran, Legion?

I know you hate America. Just because you hate your life and everyone else too doesn't change the fact that you are a supporter of terrorists, foreign powers and against the Constitution.

Your day is coming, Legion....it won't be me. It'll be someone much closer to you. LOL

I think Putin wants the east and south of Ukraine. The parts that touch Russia and the Black Sea. Kyiv is more 'symbolic' in my opinion. A secondary consideration.

Well that settles it, then, now that the celebrated Russian expert Ivan Jaginov has explained it all.

They applied for membership' They were rejected because they had not dealt with corruption.
Kyiv is 324 sq miles. The Russians have not circled it. They cannot. They can lock roads .
