Press is reporting him to be National Guard Lt. Col. Astakhov Dmitry Mikhailovich, though the press seems to be mixing up his family name, patronymic name, and first name.

He seems to be speaking extemporaneously and without a script, so it comes across as genuine.

As much as I understand the Ukranians want to use these tactics in their information-war efforts against Putin, I do not believe POWs should be paraded before cameras. It's probably a violation of Geneva conventions.

I never blamed rank and file American soldiers for the invasion of Iraq.

Some Russian soldiers are decent people, some aren't, like the rest of humanity.

These soldiers were told by their government and superior officers that Nazis were running Ukraine and committing genocide. Which is not that disimiliar from American soldiers being told Saddam was in league with Al Qaeda and the 9/11 attacks.
