Rep. Van Taylor apologized Wednesday for an affair with an ex-jihadist dubbed the “ISIS bride” by British tabloids and abruptly dropped his bid for a third term, conceding the GOP runoff to rival Keith Self, a former Collin County judge.
“About a year ago, I made a horrible mistake that has caused deep hurt and pain among those I love most in this world. I had an affair, it was wrong, and it was the greatest failure of my life,” he said in an email to supporters.
The infidelity surfaced just before Tuesday’s primary with help from a third candidate, Suzanne Harp.
A Plano resident named Tania Joya – widow of the most infamous American to join the Islamic State – contacted Harp last Thursday, hoping she would confront Taylor privately and persuade him to drop out and resign from Congress

Swalwell’s office was directly aware of these activities on its behalf, the political operative said. That same political operative, who witnessed Fang fundraising on Swalwell's behalf, found no evidence of illegal contributions.
Federal Election Commission records don’t indicate Fang herself made donations, which are prohibited from foreign nationals.
What happened: Amid a widening counterintelligence probe, federal investigators became so alarmed by Fang's behavior and activities that around 2015 they alerted Swalwell to their concerns — giving him what is known as a defensive briefing.
Swalwell immediately cut off all ties to Fang, according to a current U.S. intelligence official, and he has not been accused of any wrongdoing.

The reality is Bernie didn't win is because people didn't listen to what he had to say for themselves. Instead, they just went with peer pressure. If people objectively listened to what Bernie proposed, which is European-style socialist government programs to promote the general welfare then people would be very happy to have free or nearly free healthcare, free daycare, free college, plenty of paid time off from work guaranteed, guaranteed maternity leave for both parents, ample guaranteed paid vacations, they would say hey, ya know what, that doesn't sound so bad, actually.
With Bernie we could finally all but eliminate poverty and raise the American standard of living to end suffering and end loads of crime because people would have nice lives.
Big corporations didn't want Bernie. Big corporations have all the power, so that's why Bernie lost.
Who in their right mind votes against their own guaranteed free longer paid vacations?
