Independent Russian News Media Silenced

Hello moon,

Our government does not operate a news service, nor does it prohibit any other views besides our position.

This is not a situation of two sides of equal moral stature. This is an instance of a larger aggressor country attacking a smaller independent nation in a completely unprovoked manner. It is clear which side is wrong.

Russia does not deserve to have it's government propaganda placed on equal relevance to the free world news.

Ooooops !

Putin's goons are doing far worse than than blocking FB etc, they're shaking down pedestrians on the street for their cell phones, going through texts

that's got to be the most Orwellian policy yet, by a mile

put your ATM card to good use, maybe chop up some cocaine on the coffee table, assuming they have them in Russia

I guess you haven't heard. Maybe someone curated your news for you.

Hello moon,

What about it ?

It is a different subject. It has nothing to do with Putin taking away freedom of speech and freedom of the press.

Putin is effectively a dictator.

Russians have no rights.

People in Donbas who want to become Russians are fools to give up being in an independent country where human rights are ensured. They have fallen under the spell of Putin's propaganda.

Hello Moon,

The people of the Donbas now have their own independent Republics- free of the puppet Ukrainian government which came to power on the back of a US-led coup.

That is not true. Those regions are still part of Ukraine. So is Crimea.

When the Confederacy tried to break away from the USA it was still part of the USA despite their false claims.

"An intensifying crackdown by the Putin regime is underway against any forms of dissent in Moscow."

Putin regime cracks down on independent media in Russia

"For 32 years, Ekho Moskvy has been the go-to radio stations for millions of Russians, a must-do media for the world's biggest newsmakers.

Ekho Moskvy isn't the only one. This week, federal prosecutors demanded access be restricted to Russia's best known independent TV channel, TV Rain. The decision came just as the station was preparing to screen a documentary about their own turbulent history.

Instead, TV Rain signed off with a bang, broadcasting "Swan Lake," a joke Russian viewers will get. That's what state TV aired here in 1991 during the coup, an event that heralded the end of the Soviet Union. "

Totally fascist. There can be no claim that anyone is free in Russia. Freedom of the press is gone. Freedom of speech is gone. Freedom of assembly is gone. Freedom is gone.

Dissent is not allowed. There is a 15 year sentence for speaking any view contrary to the Kremlin:

"Russians are also now just passing today a 15-year sentence for anyone who intentionally spreads what they say is fake news about the military."

As Russia assaults Ukraine, the government tightens its grip on information about the war

The Russian people only have Putin's propaganda machine, for information about Ukraine now?!!

Radio Free Europe says it was ‘forced’ to shutter Russia operations amid Putin crackdown on media

Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, the network that broadcast uncensored news across the Iron Curtain in Cold War-era Europe, said Saturday it will shutter its operations in Russia, citing mounting fines over its refusal to be identified as a “foreign agent” and a new law stifling freedom of the press.

“This is not a decision that RFE/RL has taken of its own accord, but one that has been forced upon us by the Putin regime’s assault on the truth,” Jamie Fly, the network’s president and chief executive, said in a statement. “Following years of threats, intimidation and harassment of our journalists, the Kremlin, desperate to prevent Russian citizens from knowing the truth about its illegal war in Ukraine, is now branding honest journalists as traitors to the Russian state.”
