Cowardly Trump leaves NATO meeting early

President Donald Trump is leaving the NATO summit early, just hours after video showing several world leaders mocking him went viral. Trump also cancelled a press conference and singled out Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as “two-faced” before heading for the exits, according to the Associated Press.

Trudeau was in a group of other world leaders commiserating about their frustrations with the U.S. president. Among them were French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Britain’s Princess Anne, daughter of Queen Elizabeth II.

In addition to canceling a scheduled press conference Trump apparently has also cancelled a meeting with Italy’s prime minister Giuseppe Conte. He is expected to keep a meeting with Danish leaders before heading back to Washington early.

It is a very good thing we don't have Trump as America's point-man for the Atlantic alliance now.

A 2014 agreement and a spate of Russian aggression appear to have driven the increases in defense spending that the U.S. president often takes credit for.

Defense spending among NATO members has been growing since 2014, when Russia began interfering in Ukraine and raised new concerns among members of the Cold War-er alliance that the former Soviet power would continue meddling elsewhere.

Seven countries now meet the goal that NATO set in 2014 that each member direct at least 2 percent of their gross domestic product toward their own military by 2024.

NATO members had already agreed in 2014 to stop cutting their military budgets and set a goal of moving "toward" spending 2 percent of their gross domestic product on their own defense by 2024.

I disagree w/ Bolton's POV vehemently, but there is no reason at all to think he's lying.

Trump always lies - always. But Bolton has no such history. I'm more inclined to believe a 1st hand account than someone who lies all of the time bragging, like he always does.
