the thing is ( and thisis not to make excuses for Putin) Zelensky is encouraging "resistance"

you got people going to police stations getting rifles, throwing up makeshift barriers ( a piano in 1 case)
while Zelensky wont even allow adult men to leave the country.

Kinna hard for him to reverse all that now - and it's going to mean more pulverizing Ukraine
because Putin isn't going to stop unless the talks pay off

I think Putin realizes that:
1. Russians are being forced to kill their Ethnic Brothers (like Americans killing Canadians).
2. That the Russian economy is now in FreeFall.
3. That the 'Oligarchs' may begin to think it's time for a 'New King'. (They didn't get into this to become 'Poor')
4. That the 'Crimea and Donbas Problem' could be resolved.
5. He could negotiate NOT being labeled a War Criminal.
