This Kind of Courage

That's the problem. We need to know what it's like so we can avoid it. Over the past two years I've been here, I've seen both the far Left and far/Alt-Right push for authoritarian rule as long as that rule pushed their respective agendas.

It's best not to test it that way. Some things are best understood only in theory.

Understood about the wisdom of respecting good theory, but sheltered people can rarely understand life as just theory. They need to get out and see it.

The Left keeps pushing for "free college" and the Right keeps pushing for less urban crime. IMO, education and experience offer a solution to both. Although I'd prefer it was mandatory, offering a two-year volunteer program which, upon honorable completion, will cover two years of college at select institutions with the option of staying additional years 1-for-1 for college. Testing placement standards would apply.

The main point would be to educate men and women, not the overgrown man-childs and princesses dominating American politics today.

The rapid decline in the quality of post-secondary (as well as primary and secondary) education will ensure that diplomas do nothing to alleviate crime. Aggressive prosecution and sentencing, meanwhile, will make urban areas more safe.

The US the World Champion in how many human beings we have locked up. #2 is China.

At some point our nation will mature enough to understand that spending $30K/year for four years, properly applied, produces more tax payers than spending $30K/year for 10-15 years if not for 20 to Life.

Total prisoners. Note the US has more prisoners than China even though China has 3X as many people. https://www.statista.com/statistics/262961/countries-with-the-most-prisoners/

The US is also second only to Seychelles in prison rate https://nicic.gov/world-prison-population-listeleventh-edition

Do you think we should stop enforcing our laws?

And when you start to see a spike in victimized crimes as a result of your views regarding so-called victimless crimes?

Then arrest criminal victimizers. There'd be less of them to imprison than in your Minority Report prison system of 2M+ locking people up for marijuana, illegal gambling and prostitution.

I don't think that's much comfort to future victims of escalating behaviour.

Says the guy who wants to make sure the US has more prisoners than even China.

I want an actual deterrence to crime. Broken Windows theory works, while non-prosecution and Defund lead to more carnage.

Also, the reason why China has so many prisoners is because totalitarianism is oppressive. America is libertine, and our society encourages people to break rules and standards of decency.

There's a huge loophole in the GOP's claim that Trump's sale of Javelin missiles to Ukraine shows his support for the country

https://www.businessinsider.com/rep...-detail-trump-javelin-sale-to-ukraine-2019-11

But Republicans have left out that the Ukrainians cannot actually use the anti-tank missiles in the conflict against pro-Russian separatists based on the terms of the sale.
A top staffer in the US embassy in Ukraine in November testified that the Javelins serve as an important deterrent but aren't "actively employed in combat operations right now."

Republicans involved in the impeachment inquiry have repeatedly touted the Trump administration's sale of anti-tank missiles to Ukraine as evidence the president is supportive of the country against Russian aggression, but they've left out key details in the process.

Under the rules of the sale, the Javelin missiles have to be stored in western Ukraine, which is far from the frontlines of the ongoing conflict in the eastern part of the country (the Donbas region) against pro-Russia separatists.

In short, the Javelins were essentially provided to Ukraine under the condition that they not be used in the conflict zone.
