I admit I am surprised Putin went this far. Four weeks ago I thought it unlikely he would order a full blown invasion of Ukraine.

I'm actually a bit stunned by it. It's very old school Soviet Union - which is what Putin is. But I thought even he realized that era is long past.

His attempt to bring Russia/The Soviet Union back to their former "glory" as a top superpower will fail, ultimately. But he's too enamored with nostalgia about it to think rationally. He's worse than I ever suspected.

This was probably the greatest American intelligence success of the 21st century. It not only gave our government two months of lead time to prepare a coordinated response to the invasion, but telegraphed to the world all the false flags and lame excuses Putin would try to offer to justify his invasion. American intelligence totally undermined any Kremlin attempt at gaining moral or legal legitimacy.
