Care to point out where it says SUSPENDED
I taught at a Texas college about 5 miles from LA. The school had an agreement that students from Tx and LA could take classes at adjoining counties/parishes without out of state tuition. Most of my LA students went to public schools around Lake Charles.
I agree with you about students being able to pass with doing little or no work, but that has usually been true. Maybe you did your assigned work, but you were probably unaware other students could barely read and were doing no work but still passing.
Teachers who fail too many students are going to have problems with administrators and parents who want their kids to make high grades. Parents in states with standardized tests are mad because their kids come home with A's' and B's but failed the standardized test. They blame that on the test rather than their kid doing nothing for those A's and B's. They think their kid is smart because they make high grades but never study.
Some of this is due to parental pressure who want their kids to make high grades to get into chosen colleges, funding methods, teachers who want the kids to be happy or feel if the kids make poor grades it must be they did a poor job of teaching them.
Many of the private schools today are just as bad because they just spring up due to criticism of public schools and because funding (charter schools) is available with little accountability.
