Neil Young / Spotify Protest Grows To Include Joni Mitchell

Hello Dutch,

It's cultural. It can't be changed by election one asshole over another. Most people have to change on their own and the only way they'll change is if they want to change.

It's been common in schools for the past 40+ years that sports figures held more clout than chess or debate club members. It's an American cultural phenomenon. Guess who are the best high school heroes in Japan? LOL

Is it really any wonder that millions of Americans believe Joe Rogan over Anthony Fauci?

Tough love is the best way to go here; let the stupid and insane die, save all the smart ones.

My form of tough love is I just disengage with the unruly. I love and appreciate them from a distance. I strive to set an example of how I think everyone should be. I want to act in such a way that if everyone acted that way, the world would be freaking awesome.

I maxed out on nasty arguments a long time ago. Had enough for a lifetime! I know the nasty argument thing is popular. This is where people come to release all their pent up frustration. And they will find, to a person, that releasing all that frustration doesn't really help. It may feel good in the moment, and that's all they're after; but moments pass. The little endorphin rush gotten out of that release is very short-lived. It has to be repeated and repeated often to keep the buzz going. And that endorphin buzz is an addiction. A bad one. It's unhealthy. Nothing is gained in toying with the addicts who are in here all the time 24-7, and it's bad for them, too.

The stupid and insane are not going to just die out, leaving the smart ones alive. They need therapy. Really messed up people have had very difficult lives. They were not raised well. All they know is dysfunction. Calling them names online is not the therapy they need. You can't even have a conversation with them unless you agree with all their extremist views. Views they hold because, really, it gives them a bit of comradery, the sense of belonging they lack in their lives. They feel like outsiders from the mainstream, and misery loves company.

We need national free mental healthcare.

Rogan is detestable. He and all of the right wing talk pundits who make big bucks stoking the fires are ripping this country apart at the core. Detestable. I don't know how they sleep with themselves. I'd be wracked with guilt if I knew the score and did that. It's selling out the country. That's what it is. How to make big bucks being a traitor to America, and it's perfectly legal. You don't have to sell state secrets. Just sell out our values, one podcast at a time.

My tactic is to kick their ass then give them a hug.

Tactics vary.

Agreed on setting an example. Agreed the stupid and insane won't die out but mostly that's because of Nanny State laws protecting the stupid from killing themselves.

Remember Road Surfing? Who the fuck does that except the stupid and insane?

Spotify, like any other business with investors, will do whatever they think is most profitable.

TBH, I was never a Joni Mitchell fan but the loss of Neil Young cost me some songs on my playlist.

I am a huge fan of Joni Mitchell! I think she is one of the most innovative guitar players and gifted songwriters of all time. She does have some personality disorders and she tends to be a recluse in her private world. But those adversities have never stood in the way of her being able to produce herself and sell some very good memorable albums throughout her career. She has always been a very good live stage solo artist. She is revered by most music fans and other musicians throughout the Music business. She is a songwriters songwriter and a guitar player's guitar player!

You may have to take a look back at the quality of her songwriting and production work. And one thing she does that is genius is the way she tunes her guitars. She is just a little lady with very short hands and fingers, to overcome her small fingers, she will use straight tunings that she created herself that no other musician (Well, perhaps the great Dolly Pardon adopted some of them) has ever used before to produce the melodic guitar backing for her songs.

HA!

I don't need spotify. I have always made it known I love albums. Every time somebody said 'enough,' and wanted to give away their albums I offered to give them a good home. I have hundreds. Joni was included in a LOT of collections. People really got into Joni. I've got multiple copies of many selections. I can listen to all the Joni I want and I don't need no freaking spotify or any other internet service. I don't even need internet.

I grasped the need to maintain my own music collections long ago. Radio got taken over by big corporations. Once, there was a time when all the stations played Neil Young's 'Ohio.' Commercial stations won't play that anymore, or anything like it. You might still be able to hear stuff like that on community / public stations, but not anything corporate-controlled.

I don't want corporations controlling my music or telling me what I can listen to.

I tell ya what really amazed me. Conservatives have always feared the government. They don't want the government controlling their lives. And while they weren't looking corporations moved in and did exactly the thing they were afraid of. And they slid it in so gradually the conservatives were like frogs being boiled alive. They never saw it coming. They were so worried about the government they let corporations roll right over them. And the rest of us too, while they were at it.

The government doesn't have to pry into people's lives. Corporations do it for them. If government ever wanted to know anything about anybody all they have to do is get it from a corporation. Spotify is no different. I never signed up for FB, but I bet you dollars to donuts they have a file on me. And all the other big corporations are following suit. It's big money to them. I wish more people would stand up against that. It's the people who go along willingly that give them the power to run everybody's lives and control your music.

Conservatives fear the government; but the wise fear the corporations. We've got rights with the government, but the only thing we've got to stand between corporations and us IS the government. And people like Neil Young and Joni.

Agreed on their paranoia about government but they encouraged corporations to take over. Remember the push to privatize everything in government? It's filed under "Be careful what you ask for".

Now they are bitching about corporations and want government to shut them down. Go figure.

Agreed. Coupled with this website for easy listening; https://ytmp3.cc/uu114cc/

I use VLC to convert MP4's to MP3's. I also use a Firefox addon to download MP4's from Youtube.

I am sure ASCAP and BMI artists like Neil Young have a problem with this, but I only use the files for my own personal enjoyment, and never use them in a commercial way.

Besides that, I already own all of Neil Young's records and CDs and DVD's or video tapes.

Same here.

TBH, I already own most of my music downloaded on other formats from 8-track to cassette to CD. I have two full racks of CDs which I haven't touched in years because I have them all on MP3 CDs or flash drives.

Hello Geeko Sportivo,

Youtube has always been my best friend!

It can be handy but very annoying. Utube is like a lousy acquaintance who helps sometimes, but exacts a price for it. And it spreads misinformation for profit.

It would be far better if we simply had the government catalog all popular music and make it available for free to everyone with no commercials. Pay the artists according to how many plays the music gets. Tax the big corporate music industry to pay for it. I don't want my songs interrupted with ads. That is BS.

I converted my CD collection to MP3's years ago. And many of my records as well. I only use my CD's in the car now out of convenience and for safety reason. If I listen to music on the HI-FI, I prefer to play and listen to the original vinyl or plastic records.

I use mirrored 3TB external drives where I archive everything music related.

As utube becomes increasingly brazen and annoying in it's interruptions I find myself digging back into my personal collections more and more.

Youtube is now changing their rules and will start phasing out some content they deem as dangerous to society.

My recommendation is subscribe to Youtube to get around all of the advertisement. I will soon be doing this as I feel Youtube is a better and much larger database platform for music and movies than Netflix. I intend to cancel Netflix as I am not happy with their offerings anymore. They bore me now!

Well, that's your choice. I choose not to give my personal information to corporations. I don't want them tracking me. I want to be free.
I will use any service that is offered for free, and if it gets too annoying I will stop. I want full control of my listening and watching.
