Right on, Joni. You are loved by millions of people who recognize science and decry BS.

Gee maybe Pat Boone and Perry Como might join in as well !

I wonder how Hipgnosis feels about Neil's actions ? You might recall he sold 50% of his catalog to them, now they cant make money off Spotify. Cant imagine they are happy about their decision to buy him.

Wow, it's like the sixties again. Power to the people, right on.

What a drag it is getting old.

Spotify, like any other business with investors, will do whatever they think is most profitable.

TBH, I was never a Joni Mitchell fan but the loss of Neil Young cost me some songs on my playlist.

It might cost me a song or two but if Pink Floyd, Alan Parsons and Enigma pull their stuff, it'll leave a big hole. Same for the Stones.

I feel badly for the schmucks he sold 50% of his catalog to. Their investment just devalued for no reason.

Note to self: no investing in companies that buy music catalogs.

It depends upon the details of the investment.

Ditto.

There are so few Heros now.....Too many of you did not fulfill your potential.....and you know it......and now you are so shit that you will not face what you have done.

It all starts with you, it always did, as you were supposed to know.

*RANT OVER*

It seems he retained 50% just so he could exercise some control.
Do you think his partners are happy about this ?

I think we will see future catalog sales agreements address this sort of thing. There is a decreasing margin trend in the music business (which is why you are seeing this being done my artists) so significant actions to devalue the catalog mean increasingly more.

If his partners were smart enough, it's all in the contract. Fucking lawyers need to be good for something or all drowned like cats.

Dude, do you really think this is the first time some artist has pulled their catalog from a business? Before Spotify there was RADIO.

Heck, before Spotify there was MTV when it really was Music Television. I loved MTV but within a few years the bands realized they could make more money selling DVDs than letting MTV play their stuff. Sad.
