2) Yes, I have not served. I came out of college after the first gulf war and there wasn't a war until Afghanistan in late 2002. Could I have signed up at that point? Yes. But two things dissuaded me. First, after the results of the Gulf War, I foolishly thought it would be over quickly. Second, it would have meant giving up my business and having to start over when I returned.

That said, the constant 'chickenhawk' comments are rather amusing. I notice you idiots don't DO everything that you SUPPORT. Why is that? Oh yeah, because it is impossible to DO everything that you SUPPORT.

It is like stating, 'you have to be a firefighter to support what they are doing'. If you aren't a firefighter you are just a chicken on the sidelines.

Blah blah blah.
 
And I would serve again if not for a bad knee and the resulting bad hip from jumping out of airplanes in the service of my country.

The war in Iraq began March 20, 2003.

SO .. for 18 months the US has no resource impediments to capturing or killing BIN Laden, or more aptly put .. more than 3 times the time that Obama has been in office .. yet, now you're wondering what's taking so long.

It takes time to develop assets and tactics in country to find bin Laden- that can't be done in 18 months. Now that those assets have been in place for 8 years and the tactics worked out the work should be easy. True I don't like the current CIC but my argument here is based on the fact that he told voters that Afghanistan was his top priority in the WOT so now its time to deliver the goods.

Buy a ticket to Afghanistan if you must .. but follow your heart and stand for your convictions.

While you're there .. see if you can find a mission for US forces.

Even If I liked Obama it wouldn't change my mind that he has not delivered on his promise to kill or capture bin Laden. How many more innocent civilians have to die in Predator attacks before we obtain the stated goal?

I apologize for my chickenhawk comment towards you .. but having served still does not make you right .. which should be especially glaring given that you served in a contrived farce.

Having served in Iraq should make one an expert on farcical war .. but obvioulsy it does not.

Eight years of fighting people armed with muskets and stone age weapons .. and they're winning .. and we should commit untold numbers of dead young Americans and untold resources to fight a war that no one has ever won.

Sure, let's pour more and more money that we don't have into Afghanistan for the next ten years .. BY OURSELVES. The rest of the world is running out of patience with contrived American FOR-PROFIT wars.

They are making gains because we never committed a level of troops there that was designed to take and hold ground. Despite my disagreement with the Iraq war, things are getting better in Iraq. People are moving back into mixed neighborhoods. Marriages between Sunnis and Shi'a are beginning to come back to numbers that look like they did when the government was secular and run by Saddam. Granted, there are still car bombs going off pretty regularly, but Iraqi's themselves are feeling better about their future.

All of that was accomplished because the US and our allies, but Iraqi and non Iraqi, went into neighborhoods and took on the guerrilla fighters and defeated them. It will probably take another 2 decades to rebuild all of Iraq and there is still the risk of them becoming a seriously radical fundamentalist Islamic country.

The Afghan people lived in hell under the Taliban, we through them out of power and then stepped back to the point that only Kabul is held by people who are friendly to the US. We have a moral obligation to the people there to fix this.

Bush promised to capture or kill Bin Laden.

Didn't do it .. in EIGHT YEARS of fighting people armed with muskets.

Bush had Bin Laden cornered at Tora Bora and he simply let him go. None of that in your angst about Biun Laden .. and it's real obvious why.

I have a 6 year old who wants nothing more than to be a soldier. If by 9th grade he feels the same way, I am going to send him to New Mexico Military Institute, which is a good highschool and JR College. If he chooses to be a soldier I will support that choice. If he were 18 right now and chose to enlist, I would go to the recruiter with him, the MEPS station and then take him to the airport to fly to basic training. So while I would not be "sending" him, I would support his choice to go.

Quite a number of them are fighting with AK 47's dropped by the Soviets on their way out.

as you can see in this picture, there are not a whole lot of muskets being used by Taliban fighters. I see up close what looks like a Moison Nagant bolt action 7.62x54, on Katusha Rocket propelled grenade and more than one automatic weapon, like an AK-47. So much for the musket comment.

I like the fight that costs the least amount of american lives. That being said, there are more troops being put into place on the ground. Planes don't hold ground only soften it up. Troops hold ground.
