Scientists study huge plastic patch in Pacific

Wouldn't it be easier to add the bacteria that eats plastics and let what has evolved take care of it?

Maybe.

I was just pointing out that he hadn't done the math to figure out whether or not his solution made sense, but was proclaiming that he had THE solution.

Doing the math requires that I have variables quantified, which of course you have failed to do that. *shrug*

It's not my responsibility to do that. You're the one who proclaimed you had *the* answer.
Again, my solution was based on the assumption that the environmentalists aren't lying about its size and density: as large as Texas and dense enough to kill fish entrapped in it. *shrug*

Are you saying that they're lying?

the photo of the jar above claims it is the plastics trapped from trolling a seine for a mile.....that doesn't seem like enough to trap fish.....

Lots of the garbage patch gets churned into smaller and smaller pieces, as it swirls about. Algalita, the marine research and education organization doing lots of good work out there, trawled a bit of the patch to see what it was made up of, and this is the result of just one mile of trawling.

link above.....now, there were some pictures of denser parts....

interesting....somebody's been a naughty boy......treehugger.com says they got it from BuffaloReadings.com who says they got it from bestlifeonline.com.....though I don't find it anywhere on bestlifeonline......looks like maybe buffalo is the naughty boy.....

you forgot professor plum in the bedroom....

Somebody should tell treehugger so they don't keep spreading myths. Myths will hurt their cause as people who find out about the fake photo take it to mean everything they talk about is fake...

not me....I'd feel bad telling a liberal he had his facts wrong....

Agreed.

Not to chime in with a "they do it too!," but what the heck; your observation reminded me of the posters on this board who continue to insist that Obama is taxing "everything that twitches." They have a decent argument that he broke his pledge w/ the cig tax, but it's completely undermined by the excessive exaggeration.

Not exactly the size of Texas. Plus the bottom one looks like it has apples and string beans in it, which means that it would have to be from a recent jettison (probably from the guy who took the picture). I guess the environmentalists lied again. *shrug*

I recall in high school, a buddy and I were doing a project on littering....we wanted some pictures of litter and those two bags of garbage were too far away from each other.....so we carried one closer for the picture......I was only about 17, but I don't recall we picked either bag up to throw away....we just took the picture and left.....guess we didn't learn much in that class.....
