and if the order applied to one city instead of an entire tribe of people is it genocide?......was the bombing of Hiroshima an act of genocide?....or an act intended to avoid genocide......
the people of Canaan that God ordered Israel to kill were the people that had a religion involving human sacrifice....the killing of the first born son......so, if we have this all powerful being who also happens to know everything, is it logical to try to second guess what he thinks is necessary?.....what if the only alternative to eliminating those he ordered killed was the growth of human sacrifice until it encompassed the entire world?......
look, if God didn't exist, he didn't order anyone to do anything....if you can't believe what the bible says, then there is no reason to believe that the Israelites killed the Midianites.....but if he did exist and he did issue the order, it is foolish to claim that we have superior knowledge and morals.....that is what I am saying is not logical....
I have made no attempt to claim that one comes to a belief in God through reason.....I don't know why you even bring it up....but don't tell me that any other explanation of why a deity would choose to have a creation that acknowledged him as the creator is illogical simply because you like a different explanation better....
by the way, the scriptures do explain God's motive in setting aside a portion of the erector set as the bestest ever, but there is no reason to go into it now, as you don't believe there are scriptures......
