You generalize way too much, and have a tendency to take one or 2 comments, blow them out of proportion & then apply them to a much larger group.

The reason for this is simple: you are a full-blown partisan hack, ingesting a near-constant flow of right-wing koolaid.

Take a look at the first post in this thread... are you going to call out Darla for doing the same?
 
That's my point. I'm having a hard time believing that even a racist could be quite this stupid. Although it would be easy to say I was a cop and send an e-mail like this.

It referenced the "Yurt is right" section, with your extreme generalization about liberals & conservatives.

No one who is not a hack speaks that way. For example, I realize that there are racist conservatives, and racist liberals, and conservatives who race bait, and liberals who race bait, and so on.

In hackish Yurt-world, liberals all act a certain way - usually negative - and conservatives all act a certain way - usually honorable.

That's how you discern a partisan hack from a non-hack.

i try my best to not use all...i frequently say most or some...if you want to whine that i don't always qualify or quantify....here is a pitty pot...

BOSTON – A Boston police officer has been suspended for using a racial slur to describe black Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr.

After learning of the slur, Commissioner Edward Davis put 36-year-old Justin Barrett on administrative leave pending a termination hearing.

A person with knowledge of the case, speaking on condition of anonymity because the person is not authorized to speak publicly about it, said Barrett, a member of the National Guard, used the racial slur in messages to guardsmen and to The Boston Globe.

(I am not saying this is what happened, just that I don't yet have all the information and am trying to fit this in the framework of society today and how people react to things.)

given that the police department has announced they suspended him and the fact that he is already out trying to say he didn't mean it in a racist way, I would say its a safe bet he is a cop and did send it out.
 
As I stated when this story broke... they need to release the copy of the conversation. Crowley had an open mike. It was recorded. They released the 911 call and Crowleys report... they should release this as well.

I'll let you in on a little secret... the cries of 'institutionalized racism' are getting old. As for it always being against people of color and not whites... how do explain Affirmative Action then? Because that is most certainly a racist policy that it designed to due just that.

Again, pretending that because I am white and a male that somehow means I cannot form opinions on these issues is nothing more than bullshit on your part. You pretend you can tell if a male is sexist based on tone, body language etc... which in some cases you might be correct. Which translates into... 'you're a sexist if I say you are'.

I never claimed to know exactly why Gates thought the cop was a racist. I just stated that if the report on his behavior is accurate (and the report is supported by the black and Hispanic cops that were with Crowley).... then Gates is a racist for acting like Crowley was racially profiling him when in fact Crowley was just doing his job.

So take your sexist/racist bullshit and stuff it. If you think a person is qualified to discuss these issues based solely on gender/race.... that makes YOU the sexist/racist.

I think we have conflicting claims here. You state that Gates displayed racism, not "if" he displayed racism. You absolutely assumed that he concluded the cop was a racist because the cop was white.

What is old is the institution of racism itself. You blame the phrase and not the practice. It seems that if something stays around long enough, people should just stop talking about it, addressing it, or attempting to fix it.

It is widely considered to be the first Presidential endorsement of and acknowledgment of the need for, affirmative action policies. It in no way has anything to do with racism against whites. Honestly I am surprised to find you down here SF. This seems unlike you.

But freedom is not enough. You do not wipe away the scars of centuries by saying: Now you are free to go where you want, and do as you desire, and choose the leaders you please.

And there are also the enormous accomplishments of distinguished individual Negroes--many of them graduates of this institution, and one of them the first lady ambassador in the history of the United States.

These are proud and impressive achievements. But they tell only the story of a growing middle class minority, steadily narrowing the gap between them and their white counterparts.

A WIDENING GULF

But for the great majority of Negro Americans-the poor, the unemployed, the uprooted, and the dispossessed--there is a much grimmer story. They still, as we meet here tonight, are another nation. Despite the court orders and the laws, despite the legislative victories and the speeches, for them the walls are rising and the gulf is widening.

Here are some of the facts of this American failure.

Thirty-five years ago the rate of unemployment for Negroes and whites was about the same. Tonight the Negro rate is twice as high.

In 1948 the 8 percent unemployment rate for Negro teenage boys was actually less than that of whites. By last year that rate had grown to 23 percent, as against 13 percent for whites unemployed.

Between 1949 and 1959, the income of Negro men relative to white men declined in every section of this country. From 1952 to 1963 the median income of Negro families compared to white actually dropped from 57 percent to 53 percent.

In the years 1955 through 1957, 22 percent of experienced Negro workers were out of work at some time during the year. In 1961 through 1963 that proportion had soared to 29 percent.

Since 1947 the number of white families living in poverty has decreased 27 percent while the number of poorer nonwhite families decreased only 3 percent.

The infant mortality of nonwhites in 1940 was 70 percent greater than whites. Twenty-two years later it was 90 percent greater.

Moreover, the isolation of Negro from white communities is increasing, rather than decreasing as Negroes crowd into the central cities and become a city within a city.

Of course Negro Americans as well as white Americans have shared in our rising national abundance. But the harsh fact of the matter is that in the battle for true equality too many--far too many--are losing ground every day.

THE CAUSES OF INEQUALITY

We are not completely sure why this is. We know the causes are complex and subtle. But we do know the two broad basic reasons. And we do know that we have to act.

Again, this is the exact attitude that contributes to the circle of idiocy.

You are correct, yelling at a cop is not against the law.... but it WILL get arrested in most circumstances. .

If you have no problem with those two contradictory realities, then you are way too comfortable living under Authoritarianism.
