The only people racheting up the controversey making accusations that the arrest was racist and calling police behavior stupid were liberals.
Obama said he hoped the event would end up being a "teachable moment, where all of us instead of pumping up the volume spend a little more time listening to each other" and improve race relations "instead of flinging accusations."

Like with the Duke case, no apology will be offered. Obama today gave the press closure, i.e. an excuse to drop it and say, "The President addressed the issue".
It fit their view of America.
